To regain his confidence and his authority, Sharpe will fight as he has never fought before. Your one stop blog for teaching information, author updates and a wealth of educational resources. But that comfort is rudely shattered when he witnesses a murderous act of treachery by an English officer who has defected from the East India Company to join the mercenary army of the Mahratta Confederation commanded by the flamboyant Hanoverian, Anthony Pohlmann. His name is Rupert Farley and what a talent he is, so much so that I wrote to him recently to congratulate him on his work in this series. Published 10 months ago. Soldier, hero, rogue — Sharpe is the man you always want on your side.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Bernard Cornwell is one of my favorite authors, and he brings history to life in his "Sharp" series. These days it is common to see the phrase "Based on a true event" tossed around lightly. I sometimes think if a story takes place in an existing country, it can be labeled as such, regardless of how ridiculous it might actually be.

The Sharp tales take slight liberties with history, but are based on story lines obviously carefully researched, and their background is explained by the author in detail. Sharp is an excellent "hero", with character flaws especially common in his era, but at the core is a true patriot, if sometimes a "back handed" one.

Sharpe’s Siege: The Winter Campaign, 1814 (The Sharpe Series, Book 18)

This is something like the tenth Sharpe story. Most of them are full length novels and most of them are set during the Peninsula War of Wellington against a variety of Napoleon's occupying armies. So if you are reading them in order - as you should - you must already be fond of these books. You will know the continuing themes of these books. You will know Cornwell's virtues as a story teller. All you need to know from me is - is this one of the better ones in the series or one of the weaker ones. I'm happy to report that this is indeed an excellent tale.

I love all of the Richard Sharpe books. I hate having to search for the chronological order of the books, so I'm providing it here so people don't have to search. I discovered Richard Sharpe while stuck in a hotel many years ago. When I found out the series was available from Netflix, I had my own Sharpeathon. With the faces of Sharpe and Harper in my mind, the enjoyment of both the books and the audio was enhanced. The fictional characters are so well written into the actual historical narrative that is it doesn't require suspension of belief. I read this series, start to finish.

Every book is excellent. All winter, rainy days, fireplace, coffee, cookies. Great time spent with wonderful characters, good and bad. The stories built into history lessons were just masterful.
