Hardin made an incredibly difficult subject understandable, and her teaching style encouraged students to speak up, ask questions, engage with the subject, and enjoy the process of learning. I cannot say enough about her teaching abilities, her personal warmth, and her genuine and encouraging love for her work. He helped lead all students in the class to answer their own questions instead of simply giving the answer outright. I have not seen a teacher use this technique in a long time--it helps so much with critical thinking skills. He also encouraged students to ask hard questions during presentations.
This was great practice for both the presenter and the rest of the class who had to think of analytical questions to ask. Maura is an awesome teacher She cuts us no slack, and it will pay off when we graduate! I love her and her drive to make us the best interpreters! Very enthusiastic and speaks truth. Power and beauty behind her words. Makes material FUN and easy to learn. Changed my life and familiarized me with a whole new language.
Hoyt makes a difficult subject easier to comprehend and recognize how it applies to our daily lives, like understanding the ingredients on a product label, to the molecular level. Plus, she's a wonderful example to young women of what is attainable, if they will apply themselves. Hufbauer is an outstanding instructor whose excitement about teaching results in an active classroom full of knowledgeable students.
The university would benefit from many more Dr. Johmann should be recognized for his supreme faculty in the Socratic method of teaching which challenges students and provides them with a path to attain higher education and understanding not only of the materials he covers, but also of the historical and modern world. Jones gave me confidence as a public speaker and really pushed me to be a better speaker. She was always very enthusiastic and eager to teach. She was very open and approachable. I learned so much this semester and actually had fun doing so. I have learned so much from her that will not only apply to inside the classroom, but outside as well.
This past December, my mother was diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer--glioblastoma. Sadly, she died only three months later in February This has been, at times, an overwhelming situation for me. But throughout it all, Dr. Debra Journet has been a wonderful friend. Having lost her own mother to the same disease, she provided profound empathy and help, allowing me to make it through this difficult year--which is my third as a Ph. I have been and am blessed to have her as my dissertation director and as my friend.
Every once in a great while you come across someone who is really gifted and has chosen to unselfishly share those gifts with others. Professor Kelly has chosen to spend her hours sharing her knowledge and wisdom with the next generation, preparing them to make the world a better place. I would like to nominate Professor Kelly for a Faculty Favorite because of her generosity and sincere concern for her students and others.
She is an individual of wonderfully unique and fine qualities, and just like a fine wine, always enhances the experience. Kim's enthusiastic style made approaching a difficult subject much easier. I appreciated his focus on writing and educating us about the scholarly expectations and conventions of the field.
Kim has been a very valuable resource to me during my studies in mathematics. He is always willing to discuss questions on concepts and material even outside his office hours. She is off the hook, makes you feel like a peer, includes you, and takes what you have to say in a very constructive manner. She was wonderful in class and has continued to be excellent as an advisor.
She knows her students well and her department too. Everything I've had issues with she's been there to help me with them. If she can't help students with a problem, she doesn't waste their time. Instead she sends them on to the correct place. Other instructors should take a lesson from her. She will go far in her career and will help students reach their fullest potential. I'll be sad to graduate because she won't be my advisor anymore!
I hope other students are as lucky as I am and can have her for an instructor and advisor. I have never had an instructor that cared about his students the way he has. He is understanding and easy to talk to. We are all sad to see him move away, because our whole class planned to take him again in the Spring semester in ASL He deserves this award!
I learned, he is fun and enthusiastic, fair. This professor makes learning fun. He keeps your attention, and he always, always has time for questions and gives thorough thought to his answers. A truly great instructor! After being away from the college setting for many years, he has made me feel like I can succeed in this endeavor. His love of mathematics inspires me. I wish all professors were as enthusiastic as him. This teacher is one of the best top JA teachers and goes out of his way to make all students, whether undergrad or grad students, learn the materials for class but also injecting valuable life-learning tools that they will need after graduation and into the workforce.
This teacher should be recognized for all of his top efforts to students. He is the greatest psychology teacher at UofL. He makes it fun and keeps everyone interested!!! Unlike many courses, you actually learn the information and retain it! Mansfield-Jones taught in conjunction with five other professors for this semester's section of BIOL , and I must say that she truly shined as an instructor.
I looked forward to her lectures because she always had such a zeal for teaching and for answering questions from her students. To date, I have had no such professor at the University of Louisville, and I only wish that I had more professors who love what they do as much as "Dr. Overall, she is an excellent educator and a truly kind and genuine person! Marshall is an awesome instructor. I had her for social theory, which has the potential to be dull and dry, but with Dr.
Marshall and her enthusiasm, it was interesting, thorough, and thought provoking. I truly enjoyed the class, Dr. Marshall, and the material. Martens is one of the best professors I have encountered during my undergraduate career. She communicates her deep understanding of political science and law through a method of teaching that captures her students' interest.
Hers will be a great loss to the Political Science Department, as this is her last semester as a professor at UofL. Martens has become one of my favorite professors on campus. She is extremely knowledgeable of her field and teaches in an engaging and respectful manner. Her class is always interesting, and the tests are excellent measures of knowledge. The Political Science Department will suffer a great loss without her. Scott Massey is a wonderful professor. He is generous with his time and knowledge on subjects that concern the students in his class.
His attitude towards art makes the students want to succeed in their work. I have been lucky enough to have had him as a professor for five semesters now and appreciate all the support he has given me. He has truly made an impact on my education at U of L. Mattingly is a conscientious instructor. She turns in submitted assignments on time and posts grades to Blackboard quickly. She puts you at ease and makes you learn the material. Her classes help you develop your critical thinking faculties.
I consider myself fortunate to have taken a class with her. I hope to take another one with her in the near future. McCarthy is an engaging and intelligent instructor with great passion and sense about the topics he teaches. He makes even the most dry material relevant and relatable. His passion ignites passion in his students and opens up dialogue that makes us all rethink our viewpoints on a wide range of topics, from politics to religion and people's of the world. I am a better human being due to Dr. Michael is an amazing instructor. He does his best to make the students understand the material and make the materials' real-world implications known.
Very thought provoking and inspiring. His attitude and his enthusiasm really propelled the class to get the most out of the course and to prepare them for real-world work experience. Even though I didn't have him for class this semester, still the best instructor I have ever had. I have had the pleasure of taking several classes with Dr. Medina, including one this semester.
The classes have been very eye opening and enjoyable. His knowledge of the material, in addition to its dissemination, is very effective. They have greatly enhanced my knowledge in several different areas, in particular unearthing an academic interest. In addition to being a very dedicated and highly motivated professor, Dr. Medina is also very caring and down to earth.
He goes out of his way to provide help and assistance. He is very approachable and takes a deep interest in the success of his students. I am very impressed at the work ethic of this professor. In addition to teaching, he is also involved in a host of other activities which are executed with a high level of professionalism. Without a doubt, Dr. Medina has made a profound impact on my life as a student and in the lives of countless other students. Medina is one of the most outstanding professors I have had the pleasure to encounter here at U of L. He was very instrumental in my success and completion of my MA.
His assistance, direction, and understanding made this learning experience one of the best. Medina has been a great influence in my development as a student and person. It has been a pleasure to have met him and a joy to study under him during my undergraduate and graduate career at the University of Louisville. As my graduate research project supervisor, he encouraged my ideas while offering great support and research suggestions.
As a future professor, I hope to give the same positive influence as he has given me. Medina has helped me a great deal in understanding the fundamentals of theories of many subject matters.
He is a great professor. He has a wonderful relationship with the students. Meeks is a fearless leader and outstanding mentor. She possesses a wealth of knowledge and is an inspiration to all her students. I would like to nominate Ralph Merkel as my favorite professor. I have had plenty of professors during my time at the University of Louisville, but none of them can compare to Professor Merkel.
He is not only very knowledgeable in what he teaches but he goes above and beyond for his students. He is one of a limited amount of professors that is always readily available whenever he is needed. He is funny, encouraging, smart, and overall a wonderful educator. Since I have had his classes, I have recommended him to every student I can.
The –13 Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team represented the University of Louisville during the –13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The –12 Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team represented the University of , the NCAA announced that Louisville will be forced to vacate wins and records from the , , , and seasons.
I look forward to his classes in the future, and I know that if ever I need advice or assistance, he will always be available. It is because of this that I say thank you and nominate him as the best professor of Fall My first class with him was in Spring and that was the first time I saw his passion for teaching students.
That summer I got the opportunity to intern with him and learn more about the film industry. Without him, I would not be half the communication major I am today. He has taught me and other students a lot of very valuable information even beyond the classroom. Professor Merkel is truly devoted to helping students succeed. Since he knew I had a passion for film, he learned about an opportunity to make a Public Service Announcement for Howard University.
Not only did I learn a great deal from this experience but I got paid and it would not have been possible without Professor Merkel. Merkel always shows great enthusiasm in class.
He's also always willing to help anyone and takes time to explain details to each student. I put off Comm until my senior year dreading the day that I would have to take it, but from the first day of class, Sarah made the subject matter interesting, the class enjoyable, and my day a little brighter at 11 am every Tuesday and Thursday. She has a thorough knowledge of her subject matter and is very approachable and easy to talk to as well as learn from. She is a gem. Mitchell went above and beyond to make sure his class MT understood the material and actually learned it in a manner that would allow them to achieve success; and still managed to make math entertaining and fun.
His great knowledge of math made it easier for us to understand math, and the fact that it was his true goal to teach us so that we could succeed in the class means more than anything. I wish I could have you for Math Despite being pregnant and having her baby within the first two weeks of class, Robin managed to stay on track, and we completed all the assignments on the syllabus.
I really appreciated that she stayed committed to us students. Senator Gerald Neal - -Opened my eyes to the complexities and challenges that face health care reform. He also enlightened me to the dynamics of the political party relationships. The best professor I have had at UofL thus far. Noble is extraordinary at explaining the challenging concepts of chemistry in a manner that is readily understandable and applicable, even to students who are new to chemistry.
He always takes time for questions and plans his lectures so that he spends more time on more difficult concepts. In the process, Dr. Noble makes chemistry enjoyable and entertaining through real-world chemical applications and small experiments or visual aids in class. I have nothing but praise to give to Dr. Noble, and I appreciate his diligent work and care for his students. As such, I nominate Dr. Quick to respond to communications and incredibly willing to be helpful in any way.
He made class enjoyable and was always available to help. Todah, Moshe, lelomed yim anahnu!! He is one of the most patient language teachers I have ever met and is always willing to help his students all he can. Moshe has been an outstanding professor, and I would not have learned Hebrew as well as I have without him as a teacher.
He is a true asset to the university. His methods make learning Hebrew accessible and his knowledge about so many other things helps the class to better wrap our heads around the subject matter. I can say, without a single doubt, that having him as a professor for Hebrew has been the defining reason that I have enjoyed my time at UofL.
The passion with which he teaches is infectious, and his style is personal but, at the same time, incredibly intense. Despite the fact that our class only has a few students, Moshe continues without fail to inspire, lead, and teach us all. I know that I am not alone when I say that it is because of how he teaches that I continued with such fervour and vehemence with this difficult language. Moshe deserves an immense amount of recognition for all the hard work that he has put in for us, and I feel that this is just a small portion of what I could give back.
I've sat under many professors that are brilliant in their field but are lacking in teaching skills. Moshe brings passion, humor, knowledge and direction to the classroom that makes his classroom a fun place to learn. UofL is lucky to have Moshe, and he should not only be recognized, the University should beg him to stay on as a Hebrew professor. I wouldn't say his Hebrew class was easy nor that he didn't hold us to a high standard. It was a tough class, but as I emailed him during the semester , his class was a joy, and I looked forward to coming three times a week.
Please honor this man for his unique abilities, his passions, and high standards! He is the head of the program and always does his best to see his students succeed. He has worked very hard to get this program together and on its feet. She has a presence about her that puts the entire class at ease.
When such a learning environment is created, the potential for learning greatly increases. In my opinion, this is a talent that not many university professors possess. Patton creates a comfortable classroom community; uses humor; is human; shares her expertise in an inspiring way not stuffy. Perlin was extremely approachable and made the material so easy to digest. He was always so encouraging and positive when interacting with students and made the classroom a large lecture hall a fun and engaging environment.
I absolutely loved his class! Peteet is an excellent instructor and always provides unique insights to the materials we cover in our readings. She teaches a wide variety of courses, from refugee studies to Middle Eastern culture. Peteet is a professor definitely worth learning from. Phillips has made me love English this semester. She made English fun with her homemade PowerPoints and unique papers. She is by far the best English teacher I have ever had through all my years of school. Pritchett makes Greek Myth come alive!
He's obviously passionate about it and it's contagious for his students. He's very kind and wants to see his students succeed. Rieger provided a consistently rigorous critique that addressed research methods in such a holistic manner that I commented that this is the best course I've ever taken. Professor Rogers is one of the best professors at this university. She really takes the time to relate to her students and because of this, I have learned more from her and my peers than I ever thought I would.
She promotes never-ending learning, and she inspires me to be the best I can.
I can only hope that I will be half the teacher she is. She puts her students' needs first and foremost, and she creatively implements the material into the daily routine. Professor Saad was one of the most professional, impressive, and dedicated language instructors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Puts a lot of thought into her teaching, is enthusiastic, and makes the subject entertaining no matter what. Gives us a chance to figure it out but is always willing to help. Shafto is a superb professor. Before every class, he makes sure you understand what was gone over in the last class.
He really cares about statistics and makes it interesting. Many students in his class aren't mathematically talented or couldn't really grasp a hold of statistics, but Dr. Shafto makes the class fun and educational. I have learned more in this class than I have in most of my classes because he puts the emphasis on the important things, teaches what he knows, and as the expert he is on Psychological Statistics; not to mention, he gives the class a quiz before moving into each lecture. This just helps improve retention of material and helps the class do better on the tests.
Wonderful lectures; very informative; personable; showed concern about students. Steiger has impressed me as going above and beyond to facilitate a healthy learning environment in the Theatre Arts Department. She expects much from her students but also provides them the necessary tools to accomplish the goals set in her classes. She encourages group discussion and isn't afraid to tackle difficult or controversial issues.
I have come to respect her greatly over the course of this semester. Her teaching and directing is unique in that she has her students focus on a community group to help create and develop theatre that can change the community for the better. She just finished directing the play, Plays: A Play, where seven students under her direction, and with much help, focused on the community group of sports students, fans, and family members and on how that group impacts our community for the better and what we can all learn from that.
Amy is also the type of professor that is always willing to make time for you whatever your needs may be. She is always there to listen and support you in all academic endeavors. She is a wonderful teacher, an inspirational director, and a great person. He is a very thorough and well-prepared lecturer who demonstrates that he cares that his students are learning the information that he presents.
Samantha Strom went above and beyond as a TA for Dr. Drawing upon her experience, she presented creative techniques for tackling difficult course material, which ultimately contributed to the success of her students. Students never felt hesitant to ask her questions, and she tracked down the answers in the event she did not have a suitable response.
Samantha exemplifies what a TA should be at the University of Louisville. Tewksbury has gone well above and beyond the normal duties of a professor to help me achieve academically and professionally. I have accepted a full scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina to earn my Ph. I would not have been in a position to make such a decision without his willingness to work with me on publications and class assignments, which helped me maintain a strong academic record.
Tewksbury also encouraged me to present my research at academic conferences, which has strengthened my resume and academic network. He is a truly exceptional and selfless mentor.
Tewksbury has helped me tremendously throughout my M. This semester he chaired my thesis and taught the class that I was in, both having a profound effect on me personally and my career goals. He has also mentored two other graduate students in the department, and I know he has had an equal impact on them. Thomas has been an inspiration to many students in the Theatre Department. She has always been a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a great source for knowledge.
There was one day after class where I went up to her and she told me, "there are going to be people that you meet in your life that are going to have an impact on you, and one day you will have an impact on others. Thomas is a hard worker. I know that she even created a master's program about theatre in all African diaspora. She is a great leader in the African-American Theatre Program.
This graduate program that Dr. Thomas has created is the only one like it in the whole world! She is always pushing students to do their best. I really feel that Dr. Thomas has my full recommendation for this award for Faculty Favorite. Thomas works hard to cultivate and increase the quality of the African-American Theatre Program. She takes the time to pour encouraging words and wisdom into her students!
She spends countless hours working on projects to increase our success! Tillquist's enthusiasm is contagious, and his interest in his students' increased understanding is impressive! Usui is a gift to students. He is generous with his time and expertise. I have been privileged to know and work with him.
Vandenbroucke was an amazing professor for his classes. Not only was he upbeat, but his classes started on time and were never cancelled. He kept the interest of the class and made sure to answer any questions that came his way. I personally talked to him and found out a lot about his personal life and traits that we share. He gave advice not only to me but to the entire class.
He expected nothing less than our very best and pushed each student to give it. Though he did not run the subject into the ground, he made the class attendable though it was not mandatory. This man is a wonderful professor and person. He deserves to receive the Faculty Favorite Award because of all this and more. Great teacher who is entirely knowledgeable on his subject and very approachable. Taught beyond the book in a helpful, not overwhelming way. He is a great teacher in the way that he teaches his students. He goes beyond merely doing the least he can do. He cares about his students, and his concern for them goes beyond just the teaching of facts in the classroom.
His class on historic preservation has relevance in the real world. He has spoken numerous times on jobs in public history which lets us know that he cares about what happens to us after we leave his class and U of L. He respects his students and, personally, I think overall he has been the best teacher I have ever had the honor of learning from. Julie deserves this award for her enthusiasm and efforts in helping students acknowledge importance in sex roles and diversity.
She gave us interesting readings and covered a lot of ground. We had mind-changing discussions regarding race, gender, sexuality, and modern culture. She will go on to do amazing things and touch many people through her writing. She was a lot of fun, agreeable, and her main focus was to ensure that we learned the material well. Wagner is an enthusiastic, professional, and empathetic professor who shows her passion when teaching or lecturing. I consider her a mentor. She was always very enthusiastic and encouraging. Kandi really worked to get her students involved in areas of health communication that were important to them while keeping class exercises flexible, engaging, and relevant to the material being covered.
I'm not sure how she does it, but she is always patient and available to help, no matter how much she has on her plate. She has helped me so much through my undergrad, and I am very thankful to have had her as a professor, an advisor, and someone to respect through my years at UofL. I really appreciate the care she took in guiding an old man through an online class. This was the easiest online class that I have navigated through by far. Weber for multiple courses as well as had her for an advisor.
She goes above and beyond in all aspects to make sure that the student is understanding the material. She makes herself very available for everyone in the class as well as anyone interested in sociology. She is very down-to-earth and very intelligent in multiple subjects. Overall a great experience.
Bronwyn is a great teacher and a great Writing Center director. I want to become an English professor someday, and he has taught me so much about what it takes to teach in his Writing Center Theories and Practice class. The class is both interesting and extremely valuable in the long run. Mark is an amazing teacher. Not only did he teach me writing skills, which is what was intended for the class, but he taught me a lot that I will carry with me through college. When I returned to school after 16 years, I was terrified and not real sure that I could do it.
He was always so encouraging, not only to myself, but to everyone in the class. He never made us feel like we were wrong necessarily, but he would always tell us what would better work for a piece of writing or idea.
Always on our major writing assignments he offered guidance. He never set us up for failure. I could email him anytime if I was having trouble with something and he would get right back to me, despite the fact that I'm sure he was incredibly busy with his own school life. He didn't just teach me how to write, but he taught me so much more. I can't say enough about him I was very lucky to find myself in his class! I would like to thank Professor Williams for restoring my long-lost love of reading and writing. I have been challenged yet not brutally overwhelmed by his classes, a delicate balance that is not easy to find.
In short, one of the best around. I learned so much and felt he was always receptive to what his students had to say. Wolfe is a great teacher in many ways, but I nominate her for one specific reason. As a dissertation director, she is probably the most efficient as well as most dedicated professor in the university. Here is why I make that admittedly big claim.
Wolfe gives her students specific, doable tasks, asking them to submit the tasks a day before the next meeting which is scheduled at the current meeting. She also has groups, which she and her students humorously refer to as a "wolfepack," and working in a group is phenomenally helpful. Members read one another's drafts and bring comments to the usually weekly meetings.
Wolfe starts group meeting by asking students to share their reactions to their peer's work. While I would admit that such an approach could potentially mean too much management of the student's work by the mentor, the benefits far outweigh the side effects. Two, members of the group can share ideas and help each other, not just intellectually but also socially and emotionally. In fact, three, Dr. Wolfe even acknowledges that her students may be able to vent their frustration of the dissertation process with their peers, which even the most stolid person is likely to do at one point or another in the course of writing a dissertation.
Finally, I think that while weekly meetings could seem a little too much engineering for students and faculty in the engineering and I know that this approach is common in disciplines like engineering , my experience has been that the opportunity to move one small step at a time, week by week, is more beneficial than any other approach I can imagine. Wolfe is the author of Team Writing, a book that illustrates how teachers can make one of the most theoretically liked and practically disliked teaching tool: Natural Sciences are not my best subjects, and I was dreading taking the Biology lab.
I cannot explain to you how much of a difference it was having Mr. Wood as my instructor for the class. He was always willing to answer my questions and take the time to help me understand the material. He made it possible for me to actually enjoy a class that I knew I was going to struggle with. It has been a plus for me doing Quantum Mechanics with Dr. She has a good approach of giving out the material and challenges the students through her assignments and tests for evaluations. Excellent instructor for CIS Really prepares you for the real world and challenges you all semester.
Awesome teacher, probably my favorite. Bruce was great at interacting with the students. It was a tough class, but also a lot of fun. Professor Burge is an amazing professor; she is by far one of the best professors in the College of Business. Cuyjet's diligence and guidance. Choi has gone above and beyond the call of postsecondary faculty. Mullaney identified a long list of literacy activities I should be observing, and when I did observe those activities, my "lightbulb moment" was awesome! He takes a personal interest in our learning and always takes the time to re-explain a concept if we do not understand. Her class was original and fun. It was my favorite course of the semester and one of my favorite courses of all time!
