Blackburn's theory, if you set a reasonable goal to lose about 10 percent of your initial body weight, then hold steady at your new weight without regaining any pounds for at least six months, you can reset your body's set point. And once you've reset your set point, you can repeat the cycle to lose even more weight. The body's innate tendency to protect itself against starvation explains why the body resists losing weight after a certain point.
Blackburn explains the science behind the set-point theory and helps you devise a plan that works for you. With his unique, multi-faceted approach, Dr. Blackburn shows that hitting your set point is not a dead end but the first step in losing weight the right way. This book will help you overcome your weight-loss plateau once and for all. Sponsored Products are advertisements for products sold by merchants on Amazon.

Unfortunately, even though this book explained this set point theory and my mind finally understands, it's still is a challenge! This is where I need to muster up the motivation and determination to achieve my goals maybe I should in find a book on that! This book is definitely a key factor in helping me with the process though.
Definitely worth the read. He makes some good points but overall I doubt anyone has much success with this book. An example of a weight loss tip is to sometimes eat breakfast for dinner: However, one thing I liked about him was to tell people to get a good, precise digital scale and to weigh themselves daily. There are so many weight loss authors who act like people are too fragile to check their weight daily and this guy is the opposite and says the scale doesn't lie - "if it goes down you are eating less.
I first read about the set point theory of weight and dieting about twenty-five years ago, so the idea is not new. What is new, however, is how this author goes about explaining resetting that set point so that your body will accept the new weight and how you can reset it over and over until you reach the weight you want and keep it off.
The author's credentials and experience are impeccable. If you have been trying to lose weight and there seems to be a magic number on the scales you just can't get past or you get past that number and you fight for evey pound lost and the slightest slip on your part brings back more weight than seems logical to you, or you've lost the weight over and over only to always gain back to a certain point even when you lost the weight the "right" or slow way, this book is for you.
If only I could put into practice Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. If only I could put into practice what the author recommends. The information in this book is based on extensive research in the field of nutrition. The recommendations for weight loss are sound and thorough. I was particularly interested in breaking through a plateau.
I have found these weight plateaus to be more individualized than the increments referred to in this book, but the principle of maintaining the initial weight loss, and then renewing weight loss efforts is sound. This book confirmed what most of what I already knew.

I recommend this book purchase for those who are new to weight loss and willing to invest the time and energy to a making life style changes. I do not recommend this book for those looking for quick weight loss or for those who are already well-informed and experienced in weight management. This book makes so much sense to me.
