This book is somewhat difficult to read because of the writing style of the author. It would not have been my first choice for reading about Fundamental Theology if it had not been required for my seminary course.

De discipline moet echter niet enkel opnieuw gelanceerd worden omdat ze verdwijnt uit de theologische opleidingen, ze moet ook omgaan met nieuwe uitdagingen en ontwikkelingen, waarbij de interreligieuze dialoog wellicht de meest prangende is. Hij combineert bovendien op aanbevelingswaardige manier zijn confessionele identiteit met aandacht voor theologen van andere tradities. Deze oecumenische openheid is ontegensprekelijk een van de sterktes van zijn bijdrage. Hij slaagt er daarbij in om de lezer doorheen de besproken themata te wijzen op het belang voor FT. Zo bestaat een van de taken van fundamentaaltheologen er volgens hem in om criteria te ontwikkelen die helpen de Traditie te onderscheiden in de vele tradities.
Het mag dan ook niet verwonderen dat de interactie met andere religies volgens hem een belangrijke uitdaging vormt voor fundamentaaltheologen.
