However, for me, I bypassed the years per chapter, and preferred to know the age and years that passed throughout the novel. I love historical fiction from a biblical standpoint or story, and on culture, roots, and slavery. This enriches ones soul to know about their roots and history, no matter how tragic or horrific it may be. As I read the pages, I have hope and pray that everything will be okay. Moreover, I enjoyed reading during slavery time that Kathy persevered, gained her freedom, took in orphan children to teach them the Word of God Sunday School , and held her own business as a baker woman entrepreneur regardless of the hardships, hard decisions, and turmoil.
