It almost came as a form of therapy reading this, for me at least. Just days after my 15th birthday, I lost my sister. My older sister and only sibling. No, she may not have died in the same manner as Zoe but her death was just as tragic and traumatizing. I had the unfortunate luck to be a part to finding her half drowned after an accidental over dose. She died only a few days later. It was during the summer between 9th and 10th grade and going back to school I didn't really give any thought to how it was going to be.

I have to say; reading Echo's experience with the attempt to resume a normal life was true and honest for me. I've been there and my experiences were very similar if not exactly as describe. I was able to connect with Zoe as well and with how Echo was able to learn who she was through her diary because my sister was not so much unlike Zoe in a lot of ways.

There was a part in the book where Echo mentions how she just always assumed that her sister was always going to be a part of the grown up life she was going into, now that she was gone, she didn't feel ready. I can totally relate to that. I went through the same thing. My best friend and closed confidant left me stranded in a big scary world and she was now never going to be there for any of the milestones that I selfishly just assumed she was going to be a part of to escort me through.

Homecomings, proms, first everything's etc. Echo now has to go through all those alone. Yeah she has her friends but they can never fill the vacancy that the loss of Zoe as left and no one ever will. They also will never, as hard as they try, can truly understand what she is going through so they can only be so much help so mostly it's just Echo alone until she can pull herself up. I don't know, I've jabbered on enough. The character of Echo is your typical teenage girl that was cast in the shadow of her amazing and bubbly older sister.

Echo is a prime example of a sibling that has faced a loss at a young age, while also trying to figure out how to find who she is and what she wants. I find that I stay interested when I only get hints towards what happened in a story about someone being killed, and it builds towards the ending in such a better way. I think every female should read this, or a story similar, because it gives us all that little reminder to be aware of who we talk to on the internet. I found that coming across books like this in high school kept me aware for myself, because sometimes listening to your parents repeat it constantly loses its impact.

This is a very insightful and heart wrenching story that I think can benefit a lot of people. May 06, Allison, Kawalec. There are actualy two people who could be considered the main characters Echo, who is basicaly telling the story or Zoe who the story is about. This is about a girl named echo who lost her sister to murder about a year ago.

Saving Zoë

It really effected her even though she doesnt let it show. It also had a huge impact on her family! Her dads never home and her moms always popping all these pills. Echo has a lot of c i chose this book because i read the back page and it sounded very good! Echo has a lot of confusion about her sister zoe she thought she knew her but one day at school her sisters ex boyfriend asked echo if he could talk to her and even though her parents thought he had somthing to do with the murder she decides to talk to him n.

This book was probly one of the best books that ive read. Mar 10, Winnie rated it it was amazing. I thought this book has a great plot and writing style. I like how the book has combination between a diary and a regular chapter book because this tells two stories, one story is about a fifteen-year-old girl named Echo, who has to deal with a tragedy, having the lost of her older sister, Zoe. I t I thought this book has a great plot and writing style.

I think Echo wants to go thorough experiences that Zoe had gone through because it could make her feel more connected to Zoe. Apr 26, Vem Night rated it really liked it. I love how it was written, the characters especially the names! I'm heartbroken for Marc for everything he's been through.

Most especially to Zoe, all the things she missed, and that really big surprise Marc had for her cause its really something. Okay, I couldn't even get passed the first 10 pages. Now this book is DNF, I had already returned it to the library. View all 19 comments. Really well plotted and paced; Alyson Noel is my favorite author right now.

Echo learns that her sister was drugged, raped and videotaped, none of which had anything to do with her murder. I could go on, but why dump. Echo was aloof, distant and lied to her friends. Apr 07, Kelly rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this book, I think it was well written. The way the author decided to tell the story through diary entrees and have us see what happened to Zoe before the "current" events are happening is very interesting. Oct 06, Samantha rated it liked it. Before I was even half-way through.

So, I guess any story that can do that to the reader, that can pull you in so much that you hope for what you know will be impossible but still…any story that can accomplish such a feat must be pretty darn good. My first issue was just the tone of the narrator.

Alyson Noël, #1 New York Times Bestseller

For the Bloom sisters, it was understandable that they would sound similar. Echo sounded so much like Ever and Riley that I found myself kind of angry at Alyson for not giving Echo her own voice. Because, while the voice may be too similar to other characters for my liking, the story telling is really well done. This brings me to the next con…my biggest issue with this story.

Again, the voice is definitely achieving that goal, but the content I think is meant for the older YA group. The use of drugs and drinking and partying, and the talk about sex being so casual and common, it really upset me. It pains me to hear about or read about teens going through that crap.

And it really makes me mad that the whole scene is glorified and lusted after by the protagonist in this book. I think it sends a really bad message to our girls and boys.

Yeah, so in the end, things get semi-straightened out and it seems like the kids realize the dangers of drug abuse and promiscuity, but the message heard loudest and clearest is that it was fun for a time. Because of that issue, I can't give this book a 5 star, or even a 4 star. It really is a great story with some good lessons but only if your brain isn't still just impressionable mush. Mar 03, Jordan rated it it was ok. If your dead sisters ex boyfriend showed up at your house one day and gave you your sisters diary would you read it?

The novel is centered around Echo, she is a normal all american 15 year old girl except her sister was murdered by an online predator a year before. Echo is basically trying to live her life as normally as she possibly can after such horrific event happened. But just when she is starting If your dead sisters ex boyfriend showed up at your house one day and gave you your sisters diary would you read it? But just when she is starting to remember what it's like to be normal Marc, her sisters ex-boyfriend, shows up at her house and gives her her sisters diary.

At first Echo doesn't want to read it because she doesn't believe her sister had any secrets, but after a couple of days she gets bored and begins to read it. As she becomes more immersed in her sisters writing the two girls worlds begin to blur. Echo is desperately trying to become more like her sister in hopes of feeling in some way that she is still alive. But as Echo continues reading she also begins to dig deeper into her sisters murder, believing that there is more to it than meets the eye.

The ending is sad, but it was also very honest and wraps up the novel well. This book really builds on itself to the point where you don't think the author could put all the pieces together, but she does. I wanted to read this book because it got rave reviews when it first came out, and I was not disappointed. The author, Alyson Noel, does an excellent job of telling the story like normal from Echos perspective, but also like diary entries from Zoe's perspective, it gives the story a lot more depth and keeps it interesting.

Alyson Noel also seems to send the message that sometimes you have to know when to let go. Because letting go doesn't always mean that you have to forget about that person, or the impact they had on your life. It just means that you are ready to move on with your own life. Dwelling on the past isn't going to change anything, no matter how much you wish it could. I read this book in a single weekend because it's so hard to put it down once you've started. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes coming of age mysteries that will stay with you long after you finish the last page.

Jan 04, Shital rated it really liked it. However, Echo finds it difficult to be happy because it has been exactly one year since the horrible murder of her sister Zoe.

Echo has a terrible home life seeing as how her father is always at work and her mom knocks herself out with pills. What Echo is trying to figure out throughout the whole novel is how her sister was murdered and why. Echo became extremely curious and read her diary every night and found out many new clues as to why Zoe was where she was when she died and what was going through her head right before it happened. Alyson Noel sets the reader on an emotional rollercoaster. This book will have you laughing uncontrollably, crying hysterically, and even biting your nails nonstop.

I highly recommend this book to boys and girls from age 14 and over because some of the content is hard to understand. However, the author incorporates the true meaning behind life. The theme of this book is basically how to find assurance and peace after someone close to you died. This book is definitely appropriate for high school because the teens in this novel are around the same age as people in high school would be.

I enjoyed this book because it was extremely well written and I loved the little twists the author incorporated. This book was a real page turner for me and had me dying to know how it was going to end; anyone who picks up this book will love it! This book has a very interesting topic.

And considering this was written by Alison Noel I liked it, but, obviously it has major flaws. But dont worry, the book doesnt have a lot of surprises, so you are not losing much. I dont think she is a good writer, in fact I find her writing poor and horrible. I dont know why she is so reknown and considered as a good writer.

In Saving Zoe, Echo, having just lost her sister Zoe a year ago by This book has a very interesting topic. In Saving Zoe, Echo, having just lost her sister Zoe a year ago by the hands of a serial killer, discovers her diary, and finds out that her older sister wasnt who Echo thought she was. And, then the story begins. Until now, I dont understand why the hell Echo decides to be like her sister. To live her life, as reckless as it was, reckless enough that it led her to the ominous destiny of being decapitated. And this whole thing, the "I want to be my sister - but Im not - but I will make myself be - but I cant" drama, really did nothing but make the character unbelievable, and the story unstable.

I didnt connect to Echo, not in the least, and Zoe just seemed like this total selfish girl who had a terrible destiny, one I would really have liked to avoid. Apart from the "poor girl" factor the two sisters shared one for being lost, and the other for losing the other one they didnt have much to offer.

Anyway, despite all this, this book wasnt one I regreted reading, since it leaves you some lessons although they are pretty obvious ones: Because, believe me, she is. I think the topic could have been developed in a way that would have made the book much more interesting, it is just a shame the author didnt write it well. Jun 18, Krista Ashe rated it really liked it Shelves: The murder itself is brushed over as some insignificant detail — we never really find out how Zoe was killed or the name of the killer.

I would have thought that Echo would be carrying a large amount of hatred for the man that ripped her sister away from her, but he is hardly mentioned at all. This is strictly the story of how Echo comes to terms with her own thoughts and feelings about Zoe. Echo was the quiet, brainy one who did well in school, never caused trouble, and often spent time with her parents.

I think that would have made a far more interesting story.
