This book is very helpful to me when I know when I already know how to approach a problem in a similar program, but not how to do it in Flash.
I can easily look it up and it will tell you the main concept in a concise paragraph and steps to follow to get the results. I don't use this book for learning Flash, but mostly to look up information on the fly. I recommend using this book like you would use a dictionary when learning a new language--you would not learn an entire language using a dictionary, but it can be very helpful for looking up the meaning of words.
I would say that the contents in this book are best for beginners, but even someone who is at a more advanced level can benefit from "Timesaver" tips or other extra information designed to help speed up the work flow. This book is not a detailed book on writing Actionscript, and it is not a games programming book. For that, you'll have to look for a book dedicated to the subject. For everyone else, I highly recommend this book.
