This Is Your Life. Jedward - Our Story. A Portrait of an Idiot as a Young Man. From Coal Dust to Stardust. Murder on Page One. The Story of a Child Prisoner in 70s Britain. The 'Dark' Carpathian Book How to write a great review. The last place she wants to be is in a room filled with ferals, vampires, and other monsters from her nightmares.

The absolute worst thing she can imagine? Getting hit with her first fervor in the middle of said classroom. She may not even survive at all. Written by Xandrie Kovak. The Sirantha Jax books from author Ann Aguirre is, simply put, a great character-driven sci-fi series with strong romance and lots of action. There are six books to the series, but it has the feel of one long, epic story that very much should be read in proper release order. Sirantha Jax is the carrier of a very rare gene that gives her the ability to jump ships through grimspace—a talent which cuts into her life expectancy, but makes her a highly prized navigator for the Corp.

Her only shot at freedom comes with a hefty price — helping a small band of rogue fighters break the Corp monopoly on interstellar travel—and establish a new breed of jumper. Since she is dead either way, she might as well have some fun. Camille, a witch, Delilah, a werecat, and Menolly, an acrobat extraordinaire turned vampire, are sent Earthside to keep them out of trouble by their superiors, who consider the girls nothing but a bunch of bumbling half-breeds.

But the girls soon find themselves smack in the middle of Demon-Central when Shadow Wing, the leader of the Subterranean Realms, decides to attempt a coup on both Earth and Otherworld. Now, with their friends and lovers, they must use all of their collective talents to prevent the demons from taking over as the three sisters attempt to save two worlds, one monster at a time. This trilogy from author Tanya Huff is actually a spin-off of her Victoria Nelson series, and it features former street kid Tony Foster, who is now a production assistant on a TV series about a vampire detective.

And Tony will definitely need the help of vampire Henry Fitzroy if he, his friend-and the world-are going to stand any chance of surviving this invasion. Just a quick note — the story does focus on a homosexual main character. Emberly has spent a good number of her many lives trying to save humans. So when her prophetic dreams reveal the death of Sam, a man she once loved, she does everything in her power to prevent that from happening.

But in saving his life, she gets more than she bargained for. Sam is working undercover for the Paranormal Investigations Team, and those who are trying to murder him are actually humans infected by a virus, the red plague —a by-product of a failed government experiment that attempted to identify the enzymes that make vampires immortal. Now, all those infected must be eliminated.

Based on the exploits of a Psychic Louisiana waitress with Fae blood and her oddball collection of family, friends and lovers, these books helped pave the way for other successful Urban Fantasy series. The family magic seems to have skipped over Tammy Jo Trask. All she gets are a few untimely visits from long-dead, smart-mouthed family ghost Edie. After a few experiences with her dysfunctional magic, Tammy turns to the only person in small-town Duval, Texas, who can help: She also inherited a warning: Written by Kimberly Frost.

When I moved to New York to become a world famous journalist, I never imagined that snagging a job at a seedy tabloid would change my career path from trashy reporter to undercover agent. I can see through any disguise, shield, or spell that a paranormal pest can come up with. I track down creatures and my partner, Ian Byrne, takes them out—usually saving my skin in the process. Written by Lisa Shearin. Half-Navajo Janet Begay possesses extraordinary power which is tied to the storms that waft across the desert.

They are helped along the way by Coyote and Crow, but these shapeshifting gods have their own agendas. Written by Allyson James aka Jennifer Ashley. Good but not great: Used to be my greatest achievement was holding a job more than three days. Now suddenly I can shoot fireballs, chill your drink, or blow-dry your hair at fifty paces with a blink of my eye! It all started when this crazy scientist dropped something in my Grande Mocha Latte.

Of course I got wicked sick. He seems even less pleased by my apparently irreversible transformation than I am. Written by Gena Showalter. What if you could see the future? What if you foresaw that, three hundred years from your time, your entire galaxy would be destroyed in an overwhelming invasion? What would you do to stop it, when it would all happen long after you were dead and gone?

These are the questions that Ia must face, and the obstacles she must overcome. Spurred by her teenaged visions of an apocalyptic future, the young heavyworlder woman seeks to set up a series of events, a domino-chain of actions and repercussions that will hopefully stop the coming invaders long after her time has passed. But in order to do so, she must enter the military and engage in a four-front war: If Ia fails, the stars and planets of the Milky Way will cease to exist, and so will the countless lives that depend on them.

But the odds of her winning the ultimate battle are very, very small, when even the slightest, most innocent-seeming misstep could domino down through time in the wrong way, and doom untold septillions of sentients to a dark and terrifying fall. Bound by the ice of her duty, burned by the fires of her conscience, driven by what she foresees, Ia must become the herald of death herself:.

This one would appeal to fans of the Mercy Thompson and Jane Yellowrock series with its half-Native American, half Irish mechanic heroine who becomes a police detective with the Seattle Police Department. Just recently wrapping up at book number 13, there are a ton of novellas and short stories that make this an even more complete story. The Otherworld gives you a little bit of every supernatural species, a mix of fantasy and romance, and lots of action. Barbara, Coley, Jean, Jackie. Also sometimes known as the Moon Children series, this Urban Fantasy romance from author Eileen Wilks features a strong heroine, an intense Alpha leading man, great writing with compelling characters and lots of action.

Lily Yu is a former homicide cop turned FBI agent who has the ability to feel magic, but that magic has no effect on her. Lily uses her abilities to fight the monsters — both human and supernatural — who prey on the innocent. Her mate is Rule Turner — a powerful werewolf who is heir to his clan. The world-building is top notch, delving into both magical mythology and Lupine politics, while still focusing on a great romantic couple. When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it.

Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it.

Written by Sarah J. She can find anyone, anywhere, at any time — except the one person who means the most to her. Rylee is often times their last hope in bringing home the lost ones, and it is her job to salvage what they cannot. But when a salvage spins out of control, an unexpected ally makes her rethink her loner ways.

There are supernatural prisons hidden across the globe. Contained within these fortresses are some of the deadliest criminals from the five supernatural races: Jessa Lebron, twenty-two, has spent her entire life in Stratford, Connecticut, one of the gateway towns adjoining these prisons which protect the fortified borders. She learns that much of her life has been hidden from her, secrets which threaten to tear apart the very fabric of her world. Especially the biggest secret of them all. Dragon mark hunters are lethal and her only hope to evade detection is to keep the energy contained.

As more secrets unfold she finds herself locked up in Vanguard, the notorious American supernatural prison. Braxton, the dragon-shifter has her back. Together they must survive long enough to free themselves and the other dragon marked. Following her death in a plane crash, Celine discovers that neither heaven nor hell is an option for her. Between covering up her devil ancestry in an immortal school and trying to understand her feelings for a senior apprentice, can Celine circumvent her impending doomsday to create a favorable plot twist?

Wizened emperors and upstart kings scheme and fight to secure a place in the world.

Horrifying creatures lurk in and around civilized places. Lost treasures lie in darkness, awaiting rediscovery. While Master of Crows from Grace Draven might be a stand-alone story, it packs a whole series worth of adventure, romance and intrigue. A risky endeavor, but one she accepts without hesitation—until she falls in love with her intended target. Mage and spy search together for a ritual that will annihilate the God Corruption, but in doing so, they discover secrets about each other that may damn them both.

From what I understand, the original three books are considered some of the best Dark Fantasy books around. With magic and witches and the fate of kingdoms at stake, the Black Jewels books are a saga featuring a young but still-innocent Queen more powerful than even the High Lord of Hell—and the three sworn enemies determined to win her and gain a prize that could be terrible beyond imagining. Enroute to the city, she encounters a patrol of Lakewalkers.

Dag saves Fawn from a malice — at a devastating cost. Their fates are now bound in a remarkable journey. Written by Lois McMaster Bujold. This huge, complex series written by Terry Goodkind is an epic fantasy full of adventure and romance. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence. In a dark age it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the next victims.

Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the best of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. He is one of many: He is lured through the portal by pure female beauty, a virgin sacrifice. She is killed, and he is silenced and enslaved. Such a dark ritual is necessary. Unlike their elemental cousins—those gentler sylphs of wind and fire—battlers find no joy in everyday labor. Their magic can destroy an army or demolish a castle, and each has but one goal: What would a maiden do if she were given such a servant?

What would befall that kingdom foolish enough to allow a battler to escape? Young Solie and the people of Eferem are about to find out. The Tairen Soul series by C. Wilson is a bit tricky to classify. The world and the characters are very well developed, there is a great overarching storyline, and a totally unique feel to the series as a whole. Originally set to be three books, it eventually was extended to five with two more spin-off books featuring other characters.

For something a little different, this is the one to try. These books are notable for their marriage of two distinct genres: Sword and Sorcery and Romance. They take place in the mythical kingdom of Gillengaria which is ruled by good king Baryn. The land of Gillengaria is an island divided into twelve semi-independent fiefdoms each ruled by a great house. King Baryn has only one child, believed by many to be unfit to rule. The Twelve Great Houses are jockeying for position to be ready to contend for the throne when King Baryn dies.

This jockeying is tearing the kingdom apart, and has brought it to the brink of civil war. In addition the general population is angry at the king for defending the mystics which they fear and despise. The mystics are people born to magical powers, usually of a quite limited scope such as being able to change shape, or being able to start fires. Any family of any rank can produce a mystic.

Usually if the family is prominent the child is cast out. Each book focus on a different couple, and the first four books complete the first story arc, while the fifth release starts a new one. Queen Of The Unknown.

The tales tell of three sisters, daughters of the high king. The eldest, a valiant warrior-woman, heir to the kingdom. The youngest, the sweet beauty with her Prince Charming. No one says much about the middle princess, Andromeda. Andi, the other one. She enjoys the company of her horse more than court, and she has a way of blending into the shadows.

Until the day she meets a strange man riding, who keeps company with wolves and ravens, who rules a land of shapeshifters and demons. In a moment everything changes: Her father, the wise king, becomes a warlord, suspicious and strategic. Whispers call her dead mother a traitor and a witch. For Andi, the time to learn her true nature has come. Written by Jeffe Kennedy. Full of suspense, drama, action, and romance, the Warlands series takes you to another world. But the power of the Ice Heart is growing, dangerous forces are gathering, and a devastating betrayal puts Khamsin and Wynter to the ultimate test.

This is a very different and somewhat cynical look at Oz as is seen in the books by L. Unlike the originals, these books are not intended for children. This Oz is beset with many social problems like the discrimination against sentient animals and racial tensions between the various human ethnic groups in Oz.

Communications

Many of the protagonists in the Wizard of Oz are presented either as antagonists or neutral. Fans of the Broadway hit Wicked have this series to thank. Brishen Khaskem, prince of the Kai, has lived content as the nonessential spare heir to a throne secured many times over. A trade and political alliance between the human kingdom of Gaur and the Kai kingdom of Bast-Haradis requires that he marry a Gauri woman to seal the treaty.

Always a dutiful son, Brishen agrees to the marriage and discovers his bride is as ugly as he expected and more beautiful than he could have imagined. Ildiko, niece of the Gauri king, has always known her only worth to the royal family lay in a strategic marriage. Two people brought together by the trappings of duty and politics will discover they are destined for each other, even as the powers of a hostile kingdom scheme to tear them apart. Shira, Doug Meeks, Barbara, Redbutterfly. Kresley Cole is known for her Paranormal Romance Immortals After Dark series, but she also brought her trademark detailed world-building, snarky sense of humor, and gripping action to her young adult series, the Arcana Chronicles.

After an apocalyptic solar flash that ends the world as we know it, 22 special teenagers find themselves with terrifying abilities based on the Tarot deck. The Huntress, the Fool, Death, the Lovers. These warriors, femme fatales, magicians, and devils each have uniquely lethal powers, and Evangeline Greene is one of the strongest of them all. Now, all she has to do is be the last one standing in an age old battle to the death.

The tone and setting are very different, but it managed to pull all of my favorite characters together and give them the spotlight. Sydney is very, very different from Rose — a person of thought and planning rather than impulse and action — but both are great at what they do. Adrian is one of my favorite YA male leads, as flawed and damaged as he is he is also loyal, devoted and kind.

I do have high hopes of a third series when this one is done that will feature Eddie and Jill. Or maybe I am just being greedy. Putting a young adult spin on her epic Dark-Hunters series, Sherrilyn Kenyon has written a great series about the early life of Nick Gautier. At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him.

Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. He is just a regular kid… well as regular as someone with a stripper for a mother and a career felon for a father can be. But when Nick is saved from certain death by a mysterious warrior, he enters a world he never dreamt existed. Now, he is caught in the middle of a war between good and evil…and the winner takes everything.

Armentrout is one of my absolute favorite Young Adult authors, and she has not one but two series that I highly, highly recommend. Probably best known for her Lux series also on this list , I equally enjoy her Covenant books. They read older than traditional YA, with wit and snark and lots of action. When I first starting reading them I got a very Vampire Academy vibe, but they quickly establish their own unique voice and world.

At just five books and a couple of novellas, there is enough to get deeply engrossed in the world, but still leave you wanting more. Cassel feels overshadowed by his curse worker family. His family is aligned with the Zacharovs, one of six big worker families that divvy up turf like the Mob. But now it looks like Cassel will have to take on his own family to survive, and out con the best con-men around. Soon, Luce finds herself in the middle of a love triangle — courting two young men with dark secrets of their own. On a quest to uncover secrets from her past, the shy Luce discovers the two are fallen angels, competing for her love for centuries.

Luce must choose where her feelings lie, pitting heaven against hell in an epic battle over true love. The Finishing School series by Gail Carriger is set in the same world as the Parasol Protectorate, only 25 years earlier, and features a finishing academy located in a giant caterpillar-like dirigible floating over Dartmoor in which young ladies are taught to.

There is steampunk etiquette! There is well-dressed espionage! There is Victorian fake food. There are mechanical sausage dogs named Bumbersnoot. It is a fun, well written and unique series with something for everyone. The Rachel Hawkins trilogy follows the exploits of Sophie Mercer, a young witch, who is sent to Hecate Hall, a boarding school for Prodigium juvenile delinquents.

An awkward, sarcastic girl, she becomes best friends with her vampire roommate, Jenna Talbot, who is an outcast like her. Through a series of events, Sophie gets caught up in the secret war going on between the Prodigium and a group of humans who believe the Prodigium should be destroyed. The Harry Potter series from author J. Rowling pretty much defies any attempts to categorize it. Chronicling the adventures of a boy wizard named Harry Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

With an increasingly dark tone and subject matter, the Harry Potter books are for any lover of fantasy fiction. Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honoured for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos. Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture.

Their leader an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince, the leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Written by Maria V. After a Vampire Tracker Marks her with a crescent moon on her forehead, year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling.

She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. Definitely one of my favorite YA series. Now a new breed of faery has emerged to challenge both… to their peril.

The greatest weapon in this epic magical war? A half-human teenage girl named Meghan Chase, who must battle to claim her magical birthright. Featuring a Cyborg Cinderella, a Red-Hoodie wearing tough-girl named Scarlet and her love interest, Wolf , aliens, space-ships, royal balls and prison breaks — it was just too out there for me. But I kept seeing the great reviews and pretty covers , and I decided to give it a try. Not weird at all, but fresh, fun, original and so very well written, they were one of the best new series I came across this year. The second Jennifer L. Armentrout series on this list are the books from her Lux series.

I have never been a huge sci-fi fan, but after loving her Covenant books I just had to give the Lux books a try. They quickly climbed to the top of my favorite YA series list. There is a fresh, original world, great characters with lots of humor and bite. The bad guys are truly evil, some government conspiracy to top things off, and a great romance. I do love this series, and seeing it wrap up in will be rough.

You know those stories that you have to talk yourself into giving a try? This was one of those. I had for some reason judged the book by the cover, and I thought that Sarah Rees Brennan had written a historical, dark English Gothic paranormal romance. Turns out it is modern day, but set in a quaint English village that does have a bit of a old-world feel. But when she finds out that not does the voice belong to a real boy, but that boy is part of the mysterious Lynburn family, everything changes. And when people start turning up dead, it seems Kami is stuck right in the middle.

This was a great surprise favorite of mine. The novels feature Claire Danvers, a student at Texas Prairie University, and her housemates in the vampire-controlled city of Morganville, Texas. While the mayor of Morganville is human, unbeknownst to most of the population the town is actually run in cooperation with a group of vampires. Originally slated to be a trilogy, it expanded to include 6 books in all, and has one spin-off trilogy complete and another on the way. They are the story of Clary Fray, a seemingly ordinary teenager living in New York with her single mother. But being in the wrong place at the wrong time leads Clary right into the middle of the Shadowhunter world — and into the attention of Jace, the best warrior of his generation.

But nothing is as it seems, and Clary begins to unravel the mystery of who she really is, she is in more danger than ever.

Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. That is, until the FBI come knocking: Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive. Written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I have to admit, the only L.

Smith series I was familiar with was The Vampire Diaries and that only because of the TV show , but it looks like the author has several young adult series on the go. The Night World series is primarily about vampires, but it also mixes in werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, etc. I am probably way, way too old to admit to loving these books, but I do. Life has never been easy for Percy, since trouble seems to find him no matter where he goes. But things start to make sense for Percy when he finds his way to Camp Half-Blood, a place for kids like him.

The other children of the Gods may not always be easy to deal with, but at least there is a place where he finally fits in.

Reward Yourself

After years spent on the run, Cassie becomes almost an accidental heroine whose abilities and confidence grows throughout the series. See all Product description. Amazon Rapids Fun stories for kids on the go. A young human woman runs away from home, gets tangled in a magical situation in the company of a Lakewalker. Sebastian Robarts is a man paralyzed by the fate of his adored wife, dead in childbirth, their only child with her.

The books are wonderful fantasy adventures, with quests and monsters and even a little hint of romance, and the spin-off Heroes of Olympus series is just as good. Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it.

Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. Written by Ann Aguirre. The first kidnappings happened two hundred years before. Some years it was two boys taken, some years two girls, sometimes one of each.

But if at first the choices seemed random, soon the pattern became clear. One was always beautiful and good, the child every parent wanted as their own. The other was homely and odd, an outcast from birth.

Written by Soman Chainami. Snyder series myself, but in writing this I did think that the premise sounds very interesting. The Study books focus on the character of Yelena, a young girl who is facing execution for murder.

Tabloid Girl

In an extraordinary turn of events, she is offered a reprieve from imminent death, and given the position of food taster for the Commander of Ixia. As Yelena struggles to survive in her new world, she finds herself developing uncontrollable magic powers even while rebellion takes seed all around her. As a spin-off of the adult Drakon series which I had a mixed reaction to , I had to talk myself into reading the first book. Turns out that I absolutely loved it — and the second book was just as good. After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince.

Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim?

As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined. The fans of this series are nearly fanatical in their devotion, and they spawn every age and group, from kids to their moms. I think most of the negativity that is associated with Twilight actually comes from the movie adaptations. Although wildly profitable, many people felt that the screen versions were cheesy and poorly acted, and that reflected negatively on the books.

But for fans of the genre, Twilight is at the top of the list of books not to be missed. Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life. Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay.

But he demands a terrible price for his help: The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows— everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: And there is no way to save her. But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose. Written by Naomi Novik. Rose is feisty, impulsive, and bold, and she is tough enough to back it up. It has a great supporting cast, lots of action and excitement, and a strong romantic element. The Vampire Academy series is a given on a must-read YA list. He saw monsters no one else could, and his paranoia cost Ali and her little sister Emma any shot at a normal life.

Ali thought she was prepared for anything — expect to find out that her father was right. In the blink of an eye, everything she loved was taken away, and she found out the hard way that the monsters are real — and they are coming for Ali. Now, Ali has a new life, a new purpose…and a new love. And she is determined to send every zombie back to where they came from.

Written by Melissa Marr , this five book and many short story series features a rich world full of Fae magic. In an interesting twist, books one, three and five feature the main character of Aislinn, a young girl trying to deal with ability to see the powerful and often dangerous Fae. Books two and four feature other characters, still in the same world. Delving into the worlds of both the Dark and Light Courts, love both mortal and immortal, and unexpected destiny, the Wicked Lovely series is a top YA read. I was always less than impressed and had No interest to continue with the series.

Thanks for the reminder. Also the Dark Hunters. Oh, and maybe just one more…….. I also really liked the first 8 or so installments of Laurell K. No, the series mentioned above are all contemporary romance. But she does have some paranormal series: I think maybe Nettie can answer that. While I know its not as popular now, I feel that these two deserve to be on the list: Totally agree Charlene love both but Anita Blake is one of my favourites, looking forward to reading more authors from the list. Hope you find some good ones! And thanks for reminding me that there are more series to add, too.

If nothing else she deserves props for longevity! Within this Genre she wrote:. Thanks for mentioning JAK! While I agree she might be labeled PNR-lite, she was writing characters with psychic abilities and storylines before it was commonplace. It has superior world-building, an interesting take on fated mates and a compelling overarching plot for the series.

Definitely add the midnight Breeds especially with the great reboot Adrian gave us with Edge of Dawn. I mostly agree with all your choices.. One has vampires descended from aliens and the other has Atlantis rising. Man, how time changes reading choices… Two years ago, I had made multiple attempts to start reading the Mercy series and I just could not get into it, so I just let it go.

And you can consider me officially converted.

Faith Hunter — Jane Yellowrock 2. Also, MacRieve was so good!!!! The top three on the list are favorites of mine: I love this list! I would add Christine Feehans Carpathian series. The earlier books were better than the last few but i will still buy and read them. Her leopard series is also good. Lynsay Sands, Argeneau series is also my favourite. I read the first book in a series by Dianne Duvall and enjoyed it, the next books are on my to be ordered list.

The first 4 books are the actual series, the newer ones are called Elemental World but uses the same background world and we see some of the original characters from time to time, but is a separate series. I read them all in a marathon and was one of the first really great series I read in paranormal along with the Dark-Hunters. I could come up with others but many are according to individual taste, the ones above I mentioned are widely accepted as exceptional paranormal series by a wide cross-section of readers.

World of Lupi series by Eileen Wilks — Adult uban fantasy with romance. The lead gal is a cop, so there is a nice amount of mystery and suspense. She becomes mated to a werewolf. One of my fav series.

Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance — Adult urban fantasy. Appealing characters, lots of action, suspense, humor and a bit of romance. The Kyndred spin off are PNR. I loved her Black Jewel trilogy. I need to give her new series a try. I will second the vote for World of Lupi, great series, I have the newest one laying in my TBR pile because of my review backlog. BTW anyone that has not read Written in Red really needs to break the piggy bank and get it, best thing I have read in a long time.

The fallen series by Lauren Kate is very good. A really enjoyable read. I think it would fall in YA category. I recommend on the list: But I also recommend not on the list: This series is so good Harry Potter by J. Hmm… Sorry for the long list K. So have to put in my two cents. My apologies in advance for the length. This is my recommendation K: Police procedural mix with paranormal aspect. They are all well written and wonderful IMO.

Beautifully written, slow build romance with great H and h. Tiffany — Master of Crows is one of the Top 5 all time for me also, I wrote a review here on Wicked Scribes awhile back. Alice in Zombieland from Gena Showalter-best ya book ive ever read Chronicles of Nick from Sherrilyn Kenyon The League from Sherrilyn Kenyon And most definitely add Rylee Adamson series by Shannon Meyer-such a great series and I hope more recognition comes to this indie author and her amazing series.

I really loved her earlier books, but the series started lagging for me even before Acheron, the last book I read and liked. More Urban Fantasy and less romance, though enough to satisfy romance lovers as well with all kinds of magical creatures from shape shifters, witches, trolls, demons, fae, gods etc. Has an impressive world-building and a variety of characters.

Also, The League by S. Features some appearances of some characters from the Parasol series. The outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon is awesome- time travel romance. This list is amazing! Thanks for all the hard work! I think this is hugely underappreciated, the world building, romances, and humour in these books is just lovely. Owens won the RITA paranormal award for this series, and was nominated this year for RT, but still seems to not be read widely. Maybe because her books are more futuristic than paranormal? Anyway, they are great.

The Edge series, by Ilona Andrews. Your description of BDB is hilarious: I agree with you that Anita Blake got funny from like the 6th to 8th books. Once the Vampire Council was introduced, the story seem to get really.. I think the following series should have been included: I think the movies might have made it too mainstream to where no one wants to admit to reading them, and they definitely made the Saga out to be one big cheese -fest.

But, the books tell a different story and evoke more emotion than those actors could ever hope to interpret and portray accurately. If I had seen the movies first, I would never have considered reading the books. This world is still growing and what I love is it also shows the major characters kids growing up and having their own stories. You will go through and emotional roller-coaster and most of these characters went through a lot in their lives that will make you laugh, cry and fall in love.

I always look forward to the next book since they are a great read. I do know that I really want to do a re-read of the whole series to get the timeline right, too. That will be fun. The Dark-Hunter Series Timeline is a bit confusing however. I love that series also. Helen harpers blood destiny series is brilliant, mages, shifters , fae and all other manner of creatures based in England starting in Cornwall to Scotland London the characters are well thought out.

It is now one of my favourite series just after nalini Singh changeling series. Just found this great site — woohoo. I do have another suggested series: Elves of a different variety, magic vs regular normal life, a plethora of other oddities including occasional homicidal landscaping. I can understand that the series might not appeal to all the readers of this website, since the tone is very dark and there is little to no romance However, the writing is excellent, the characters and fully fleshed and well developed, and the main character is one of the best anti-heroes I have ever read.

I read some Jessa Slade back in the day, and then it was like she disappeared. I will check them out. The Generation V series by M. Brennan has a very different take on vampires and a non-traditional slacker hero. The Horngate Witches series by Diana Pharaoh Francis is urban fantasy with a butt-kicking woman hero. A young human woman runs away from home, gets tangled in a magical situation in the company of a Lakewalker.

Both must adapt and figure out where they belong. A lot of the series listed here are my favorites also. But the best of the best are: Find out what happens when humans and aliens make first contact — with the humans doing the unexpected introduction! In something nasty found our world. They call themselves the Tai-Kok. They are malevolent, depraved ghouls who live to eat. The image of these tall, hairless, skeletal humanoids with a mouth full of sharp metal teeth is forever burned into the minds of every man, woman and child left on Earth.

Completing the nightmare are their three blood-red eyes that glare out of skin so transparent you can watch as your loved ones are being digested. No one knows how they found our world or why they consider us good eating. The few peace delegates that tried to communicate with them got butchered. After that, everyone was too busy running for their lives to find out why. All of the secondary characters are strongly written, too. Hi have you ever tried looking on Amazon at the CreateSpace publishing paranormal romance its like being in a candy store of new books I ordered many of them some are great some are not but it would take days to look at them all, have a look.

I know this list has been up for a while, but obviously some of us are still stumbling upon it. Great work by everyone so far. Anyway, I would like to toss one series out as a must read:. She has a bunch of short stories set in her world too, so there is a lot to read. She just came out with the 10th novel and has plans for an 11th.

Her books are usually listed as Paranormal Romance, but her work does fit into other categorizations. Thanks for creating this and listening to our input! You are commenting using your WordPress. Hey Nettie…do they have any paranormal romance or urban fantasy aspects to them? These are my favorites of the genre! Within this Genre she wrote: Hey Kaleigha, Good list!

You have most of my favorites. A few that I suggest adding: I have a few to add, if I may: Great minds think alike. Tiffany — Master of Crows is one of the Top 5 all time for me also, I wrote a review here on Wicked Scribes awhile back https: Can I add my endorsements? Some more to add — C. Elizabeth Vaughan — The Warprize series is a really great read. I think the series goes according to how many people read them. These are all good authors too. And last but not lease: And then, the Coletti made contact with the Jones Family.

Anyway, I would like to toss one series out as a must read: Leave a Reply Cancel reply Enter your comment here
