Horses in Bars YES! I have printed copies of Mr. If you don't like printed matter cluttering up your sparely decorated pad, then by all means buy an E-Copy from Amazon, compatible with Kindle devices or the Kindle App for iPhone, iPod, iPad and such. In other splendid news, I'm still writing my second novel; 'David: The Story of a Miracle' which should be finished early if I stop being a lay turd.
Sorry folks, but I'm all out of printed copies of Mr. Bloody Sunshine for the minute. I should be getting some more through in the next couple of weeks, so if you want a copy just drop me an e-mail and i'll let you know when they're ready. Incidentally, if anyway feels like giving me a few hundred quid to pay the printers then that'd be most appreciated.
You can also download it to your iPod Touch, iPhone or even your home computer by downloading the relevant App from Amazon. The Kindle Edition also features a new 'inverted' front cover, I'd like to say this is intentional, but it's just the Amazon website being weird, it looks good all the same, though! Nothing much new to report. Work continues on David: The Story of a Miracle. I'm about half way through the first draft so I'm thinking it'll be ready to go for an August release. I'll also be getting some more copies of Mr. Bloody Sunshine printed soon, with a new blurb on the back.
Also, I'm having a baked potato for dinner. Very pleased with how 'David: The Story of a Miracle' is progressing. It's not nearly as violent and sweary as 'Mr. Bloody Sunshine' but it's definitely dark Still looking like early by the time it's done though. I;ll be putting up a Facebook fan page very soon and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's a couple more reviews coming soon. Other than that, it's all quiet. For now at least. Work is well under way on the difficult second novel, entitled 'David: The Story of a Miracle' and yes I am serious about that.
I only really intended it to be a short story of about five or six chapters but it just keeps getting longer, saying that though, I think it will almost definitely be shorter than Mr. It feels like I'm abut a quarter of the way through at the moment so it should be ready by early I'll post more details at some point soon. In other news, my attempt to give copies of Mr.
Bloody Sunshine away for free fell flat. Aren't we in a recession? Or am I just a few months behind? Bloody Sunshine away I'm going to have another stab at it! Just e-mail me a good enough reason why you should get a book for free and on 28th Feb I'll pick the three best and send out copies of the best darn book I've ever written. See my links page and go to their website for more info. Also, there'll be an interview with me in the April issue, so keep your spuds peeled for that.
And gasp if you really can't wait to hear the shit I have to say I'll also be appearing on the Left Lion's literary podcast Write Lion which you'll be able to download from the 1st Feb. It's fun fun fun! And to celebrate the fact that the inevitable has happened, I'm giving away 3 copies of Mr. All you need to do is send me an e-mail stating the reason you should get a free book, the I pick the best 3. I'll be selecting the winners on 20th January so if you can't wait until then, you'll just have to pay up! Also, I've put a couple of copies of Mr. It's great for people who don't like paying for books but don't like the library!
Hello and welcome to my brand new website! It deserves to have a grand prize for the whole drama!!! Pedro Enamorado Sep 09 9: Lily Sep 09 Gigi Sep 09 Caroline Sep 09 4: Pamela Sep 09 4: The acting is superb! It will be Justice if Lady Go Ae-shin is the one who takes him out! It was so sad to see Haman killed but noble of Kim Hee Sung to finally step up. With only 3 episodes left hate to see it come to an end! Will there be a Season 2? Sep 09 I just watched episode 19!!
And it's giving me a lot of goosebumps!!! I want Mori and Wan Ik die!! I am cursing them whenever they pop on my screen!! Go Sang Ho just appointed Eugene to kill the Japanese. Dong Mae was appointed to protect Ae Sin no matter what. What I want to say is that now that Dong Mae has to protect Ae sin.. Does this mean he will die for Ae Sin? But at least give him justice. Please before he dies if ever he will let Ae Sin sincerely appreciate all of his deeds. My heart is in pain whenever I think of what might happen to Dong Mae. Huiseong''s scene at the end of the episode almost gave me a heart attack.
Dont die, just yet. I want to see a happy ending for you as well. Thinking that it is ending soon gives me a lot of heartbreak. This drama is sooooooooo perfect. I want more episodes!! Kim Tuy Nguyen Sep 08 But I love this drama so much. Do not criticize it because it is just a creative drama not follow all the truth. It deserves to be the best Korean drama of the year !!! The Watcher Sep 08 5: They always has a lot of chances to kill Lee wan-ik, but why they didn't do it? And now this, ep19 making me go insane for real.
How dare Mori kill Joseon peeps but still not declare as a war? Rb Sep 08 1: Never crossed my mind Cii Sep 08 Idk what to say, cruel perhaps How abt the rest epsds. Robin North Sep 08 Chae Won Sep 08 6: He was becoming the noble man that Ae Shin had assumed he was.
Eugene remarked that Ae Shin takes after her grandfather: So in his own pursuit of truth as a Confucian scholar, grandfather Go's endeavour touched those beyond his own community. I'm left pondering how much Confucius contributed to the creation of this drama. I can see the Buddhist and Judeo-Christian traditions that underpin the ethics, the moral framework and social sub-structures of South Korean society. Confucianism plays a part but to what degree I know not. All I can say is; I for one am grateful to the work of the people behind this production, people whose characters were unwittingly shaped by the sacrifices of their ancestors.
Aparis Sep 08 3: The uniform has a sleeve with gold with 3 black bands around it, Eugene's uniform sleeves are simply black with a row of buttons. Chae Won Sep 07 1: The compound is as safe as an American embassy. Will she move there eventually? If she does, it'd be shortlived. By , Joseon becomes a protectorate of Japan and by Japan had annexed the country. In those few short years, more than 17, Koreans perished resisting the Japanese. Eugene will no doubt play a role in the resistance along with Lady Ae Shin.
Much as I like to see them move to the US and return in , I don't see Ae Shin agreeing to go down that path while her countrymen fight for their freedom. Chae Won Sep 07 8: The uniform is that of a Japanese officer and the pistol looked like a Luger. So that was not Eugene that pulled a gun Dong-Mae and got humiliated. Centilevre Sep 07 6: The Watcher Sep 06 9: How Dong-mae flip Eugene and makes Eugene looks weak which means he can't protect Ae-shin and Dong-mae is the real one who can protect Ae-shin. Still, i'm rooting for Eugene and Ae-shin. Their love story is so sad. It's ep18 and still no kiss scene, it's just so sad.
Everything about Eugene and Ae-shin is so sad. It's just they are not fated to be together, and even if they are together, most people againts their odd relationship. I believe she will fight and die alongside Eugene. For Gu Dong-Mae, he will make the ultimate sacrifice and Hui-Seong will be the one to tell the world of their lives and how they have fought for a better Joseon. Janette O'Byrne Sep 05 1: I now understand why he is one of the most in demand Korean actor in the world.
Flower boy no more.
Here he is a man and super sexy! That Japanese yakuza costume really suits him. Kim Tae Ri's character is also an unusual one and Kim Tae Ri acted it very well, from her dead-pan expression to her directness and no nonsense attitude. Very different from most female characters of KDrama either insanely naive or insanely insane. The writers have done really well with the dialogue especially the interaction between the three male characters.
Leslie Franken Sep 04 6: It has made me fall in love with Korean television. I think all three men who love Ae-Shin are so amazing. I love the humor as well. I only wish I spoke Korean and Japanese so that I could pick up on the subtleties and caste-level language variations that I miss by relying on the translations. The music and the love Ae-shin and Eugene Choi feel for each other is so pure it hurts! So glad Goo Dong-Mae lived through the shooting.
He is so flawed, yet I am rooting for him to find fulfillment. Sydney Sep 04 6: I'm Team Dong Mae by the way? SQ2 Sep 03 I wasn't able to find any articles in English that explained the detailed reasons for their complaints. It sounds like they are being very offensive by choosing to make Dong Mae look noble for the purpose of entertainment. I don't understand the purpose of distorting the truth and diminishing the crime against the queen. Chae Won Sep 03 9: However, I don't think I can ignore the historical fact that the character that Go Do-Mae represents was insanely ruthless and morally reprehensible.
Are you by any chance rooting for Goo Dong-Mae? What I love most about Mr. Sunshine is its unpredictability. It has kept me wondering and guessing and waiting week after week. B Sep 03 7: He is trying to protect her by forcing her to stay on her property. Obviously he doesn't know Ae-Shin that well as I doubt that will have much impact on her doing what she wants to do. Chae Won Sep 03 6: Ae-shin's grandfather being the main object of his manipulation. I could be wrong. But if I'm right, I'm hoping Ae-Shin would see it as well, for if she doesn't, Goo Do-Mae's days in the land of the living would be numbered.
Jona Sep 03 In reverse order with the Americanized pronunciation of Choi. Which is said like Cho Hee in two syllables. So when he introduces himself they heard Yoo Jin Cho Hee. Which sounds like two Korean first names without a surname. Does it symbolize 'ownership'? B Sep 02 2: Is it because it is uncommon outside of Korea to have two first names? Ssuuu Sep 02 2: Kshowlove Sep 02 Chae Won Sep 01 1: Dong Mae's gang represents those historical thugs, but the drama had made him appealing to the audience who sees that Dong Mae's drew his blade on those who had violated an ethic or were cruel to others—the women who had mistreated his mother; two men who dared to impugn Ae-Shin's honor.
So, for romanticising the Japanese thugs, the petition was justified IMO. SQ2 Aug 30 Remember the controversy about this drama, the petition that Koreans signed asking the government to get involved because the drama was inaccurate and made Dong-Mae sympathetic? I don't know anything about this time period, and I'm wondering what's factual? The series was beginning to bore, and I didn't watch these until this Thursday because the characterization was lacking. Things are coming together better now, and for the first time I felt like the characters had depth. Ae-Shin was so pretty running through the woods toward Eugene.
What a beautiful scene. I think I'm right about characters surviving to resist the Japanese. Hee-Sung's printing in Hangul absolutely must be foreshadowing his involvement. I think Dong-Mae is safe at least until the end too because he must have a role as someone connected to Japan. Don't ever believe what the previews show--they're edited perfectly to increase your anxiety and make you watch next week.
B Aug 30 Sherlock Aug 30 4: I've just started watching the first few episodes on Netflix and I am hooked.

Everything in it is perfect. Considering that it is a drama, the attention to detail is unsurpassed. I am complimenting as if the drama has already finished. As I have watched so far, things would only get better. Keeping fingers crossed that the three-some, although going different paths, would all survive till the end. Olympia Aug 28 9: Chae Won Aug 27 It is good to see Captain Eugen Choi finally taking the position of drill instructor at the Royal Military Academy albeit not without haggling for a mountain to clinch the deal. A mountain where I suspect he wants to build a homestead, and plant around it, the flowers his mother had said she'd like to be reincarnated as.
However, in just a few years Japan will annex Korea. So the likelihood of a peaceful life on that mountain for a Marine come drill instructor at the Royal Military Academy, is not good. The Japanese printed money worthless anywhere else but inside Joseon, in a scheme to syphon off the nations wealth into Japan's coffers thus taking control of the nation. As history would have it; they succeed. But not without some resistance over the three decades that they ruled Korea.
So, in the end, will Eugene stay and fight with the Righteous Army? Or will he—after grandfather Go's passing—take Ae Shin back to America? Ae Shin will be in her early 60's and Eugene will be 70'ish when the Japanese rule ends. Barney Sifuentes Aug 27 8: I will admit that Mr. Sunshine is by far the best foreign film that has captured my attention. I am at this point well committed to seeing it to the end. I have not missed the first 16 episodes and I can't even imagine how it will all end. This is a well directed series in that it reminds us of the tragedies to the lower classes during that period in time and how one person from such sad and tragic beginnings found the strength to rise above it all.
Thank you for allowing me to comment. Yeon Rin Aug 27 9: I hope the trio can still alive for the end.. Trio Fanboy Lover Aug 27 4: Especially Trio Fanboy, I hope they had an happy ending. This is really best drama among your works. The story was not all about romance but also political issue and others. Love a lot how it made us laugh then cry in every moments. Btw, did Dongmae badly hurt for next episode? Lily Aug 25 Lee Byung Hun is one of my favorite actors.
Oh i love every scene that they are together SQ2 Aug 22 7: I think the Joseon yakuza members will secretly support Korea in their resistance. All the main characters could potentially have a future in that movement. I don't see how a drama about this theme would end without foreshadowing the characters' involvement in the coming historical events. Cant understand who is giving bad ratings. Just hoping for good ending: How can i survive every week. Its darn difficult waiting for the weekends for a new episode.
I just love it so much. Love the chemistry of the characters and yoo yun seok suits the look. Ughhh cant help but to watch it over and over again while waiting for the new eps. Siti Razali Aug 19 7: I wonder what is Ae Shin next move Today's episode was really a great one. Wish it continues all the way till end of drama. I know this is melodrama but I sincerely hope the writer will move forward with its angst and action during those period rather than focusing on its romance which is a huge traits of KES.
NumNut Aug 19 5: And his father was worse.
You have taken us on such a significant journey with your pacing, editing, and bringing out the best in each of the cast. SQ2 Aug 30 I think it's the character's traits -- he is supposed to be stoic-faced, somehow cold, and oozes charisma all the time without having to overact like some other actors tend to do I'm not his fan btw, this is my first time watching his drama. Haha Fighting and Kamsahamnida! Ann Jul 17 6: I'll be putting up details of pre-order offers very soon so keep checking back to save yourself some cash.
They handled things badly in when they sunk an American ship. Then when an armed American fleet came looking for their comrades, Joseon again without any provocation from the fleet, fired on the American fleet while the discussions were going on, on land between Joseon and the Americans. No explanation was given that I know of. The act started a war that resulted in some dead Joseons, 3 dead American soldiers and rendered useless a chunk of the Joseon west coast defense system.
At episode 14 they're going after Eugene whose investigation threatens to expose them. And yet Wan-shik is really the one that's calling the play which has rendered inept the Joseon power structure for decades. However, perhaps this judgement is too harsh given that the time for Joseon to fortify itself had passed. Here's to the next episode of this thrilling drama. Louise Aug 19 2: I am happy that I am not the only one who is waiting their first kiss Just imagining it would be beautiful as they are.
Also I cant wait ep 15 OMG Lilili Aug 19 1: Centilevre Aug 19 Eun-San tried to dampen her curiosity. Ae Shin asked if she can have a bottle but Eun-San wasn't going to share. Just buy a bottle for yourself. You can surely afford it. Ae Shin wasn't going to take no and pressed the issue. The wrangling continued, until eventually, Ae Shin had to give up.
A disgruntled Ae Shin: I do not understand why Gunner Jang is friends with this man. Every time I come here, I see broken bowls all over the place. Cii Aug 19 2: Live in peace Aug 19 1: I guess the real fight begins now. MGovern Aug 18 Saat ending in McGovern Aug 15 1: Manuqs Aug 14 4: Does anyone know what is it called and who is singing it?
My03S2K Aug 14 7: I like to believed you are right about Joseph's hand. But I have a bad feeling something much worse going to happen, I do hope that will not be the case. We call it Sniper Aug 13 3: The plot of the story becomes clearer and will confront Eugene in the choices he must take when important people in his life begin to become victims of all the political conflicts that occurred at that time. Injun Aug 13 7: I thought that was funny after all that was said between them. They had resolved to part ways and it broke Lady Ae Shin's heart. Then, I guess the biological pull was too overwhelming.
Sorry but it's funny and beautiful at the same time because it is very much like that in some real life situations. I hope they did really get to have their way during that time and that we get to see even as flashbacks.
I so love all the main characters. Eugene Choi the officer and gentleman; Lady Ae Shin the passionate noble woman who sees herself a flame that burns brightly, then withers. Dong Mae's unrequited love shaped his life in so many ways as he negotiated the perils that life casts in his path. All the characters together are the ingredients of an outstanding recipe for a dish one can't leave for the after-life without partaking. Sii Aug 12 9: Cant wait for the 12th eps. Dez Aug 12 2: From the cinematography to the acting The story is also amazing as well as the chemistry between all the leads.
Cathy Aug 11 9: Even though I am an American, I enjoy watching international movies, especially period pieces, to see how different countries represent their joys, sorrows, defeats, success and interactions. I am so thankful for sub-titles; however, the exceptional acting in this drama, conveys so much more. Brilliant acting, cinemaphotography, set design and costuming. I am really enjoying each episode and this series has prompted a new appreciation for Korea and its people. I am anxious to continue reading and learning about her history. Thank you for airing this to an international audience.
And as expected, I am not disappointed. I was head over heels in love with Goblin, but I am definitely loving this too! My03S2K Aug 10 8: When families in Asia arranged marriage, usually their babies are born the same year with each other. Then the two families get together and making the arranged marriage for the new born.
That makes Lady Ae-Shin 9 year younger than Mr. Please do let the age rest for Mr. Tas Aug 09 5: The sky Aug 09 3: I know Lee Byung Hoon did an amazing act in here but i love more chemy of dongmae with aesin more, i love i love this drama even more bcs of that. Lili JD Aug 09 7: I love this drama so much, I understand why all the 3 men in love with Lady Ae-Shin. Lady Ae-Shin such a big inspiration. I think I want to learn shooting next year because of her. Kim Eun-Sook, I wish I have quarter of your creativity and imagination damn.. Cik siti Aug 08 4: And the directors are the one direct in Goblin??
I cried on ep So sad they had to go on their separate ways because of social class??? Yeah just like how all KES's dramas second female lead. I believe Kudo Hina will get more screen time just like them. Angie Aug 06 6: Isley Aug 06 4: In episode 10, Lady Ae Shin and Captain Eugene Choi face the reality that their social class is a formidable obstacle in their romance, leaving them both heart broken. Here's to hoping they overcome it. Pat Falk Aug 05 Wish that I could understand the words of the songs -- so beautiful. I watch each episode over and over and all the You Tube also wish they had English captions.
Y Aug 05 Le Aug 05 4: Can't wait for more episodes on Netflix. Does anyone know the song that plays on episode 10 on the red pinwheel scene, around 50min into the episode? Olympia Aug 05 8: Interpreter one to another Listen carefully Russia, America is dead. We must report this Then France you go Abbie Aug 04 8: Too bad there's only two episodes every week. I want to watch it everyday.
I tried not to watch it and wait for it until episode 18 but i cant stop myself Btw, im waiting for their first kiss. Chery Aug 04 4: I must applaud the many good points in this show to do it justice: Not only do they explore different settings ,like from modern military to mythical to historical, they also probably have a very good writing team in the background to ensure their humour is not lost in translation.
After all, their target audience is international based, not just local. I was seriously bored of the romcoms doing cheap bad humour with lots and lots of skinship just to captivate audience. This show has revived my love for kdramas all over again. Also like the director's love for the welfare of their supporting supporting actors. Hence you see the same people in goblin and dots. The background is daebak!
Cinematography is like art in every scene. The ultimate was the go dong-mae and ae shin's scene. Who can even pull out an idea like this???? It was so artistic l had to watch that scene several times. Who can achieve such chemistry without the actors even touching each other??????? I LOVE the special effects though people tend to watch without appreciating how expensive it is to do just those few scenes. The part where byun hung walks down the bridge in America to return to Korea was so beautifully done! Nancy Slater Aug 03 Sunshine is even more wonderful.
Visually captivating and I find the acting wonderful and compelling. Can not wait for episodes 9 thru the end. I realize it is a tough time in the history of Josan but find the telling of reality important to learn from past mistakes. Love in interaction between the 4 main characters and appreciate the feeling that the script and actors are not in a rush through some scenes.
Sometimes quiet pauses speak louder than words. X Aug 03 5: The storyline could be better done!
Larassati Ina Aug 03 I can't wait the next episode. I hope this drama can reach the highest rating!!! A Aug 01 4: The love complications do not feel too cheesy or soap operaesque. I also think a lot of it has to do with the cast, especially Kim Tae Ri. Loved her in every single thing i have watched, and this isn't any different. She brings such a badass quality to the character it's amazing. Also, the scene transitions are so beautifully done! SQ2 Jul 31 1: This was the first series with YYS that I've seen. So after watching episode 8, I searched up everything else he's in.
Is this why some Koreans were supposedly objecting to his character, because he's a self-seeking traitor, yet he's portrayed in a sympathetic and attractive way? L for love,H for hug,K for kiss! Those three are important! Waitng for Aishin to show us the meaning of Kiss! Drama is exceptionally beautiful! SQ2 Jul 31 2: It was mentioned briefly at the beginning. It's too bad that we always glamourize crime organizations in entertainment, but their costumes and hair are daebak!
I can't be the only one that sits on the edge of my seat during their scenes. In a small New Mexico town, a year-old high school girl who just got her driver's license gets into her first fender bender, innocently exchanging her personal information with an Since her childhood, Jessica has been haunted by recurrent nightmares whose meaning escapes her. This peculiarity has led her to study the psychophysiology of dreams and to follow a therapy A bizarre series of murders begins in Los Angeles, where people start going bald and then become homicidal maniacs.
But could the blame rest on a particularly dangerous form of LSD called Blue Sunshine the murderers took ten years before? Travis is an underground comic book artist with a penchant for the obscene. When one of his comics insults a Chinatown crime boss, the gangster punishes Travis by removing his drawing hand. A daunted Travis retreats into a life of alcoholic misery.
That is, until his hand returns from the grave Contemporary issues with freedom of speech, and how far one can go as a journalist or cartoonist, are very well scripted into a coherent story. The blood and gore is a bit over-the-top and could have been less, but it fits the story and is not far fetched. Apart from the humor that is included to provide for some relief, there is even a bit of romance. The odd couple Travis and Amy are the perfect candidates to live happily ever after, if a great if they succeed in surmounting all the obstacles raised by business man Mr Fong, who is not very amused with their publications.
A nice find is the Text-to-speech software we saw installed on Travis' computer in the beginning, as it got an important role later in the proceedings. Apart from "talking" to Travis via the keyboard by means of this software, the detached hand proves very capable all along the story. It certainly has a will and mind? Actually, the hand can be considered the main star here, though that may do injustice to the other special effects where we see the most incredible things happen with severed human body parts.
According to Mr Fong, the villain in this story: Nothing is greater than the profit. It takes our mind away from the horrible things that Mr Fong has in mind when people do not listen to his friendly "advice". All in all, a remarkable film due to the mix of humor, romance, horror, and incorporating the contemporary theme of journalistic freedom and how far one can go in insulting others, exposing secrets, or bringing wrongdoings to light. My company who is usually not very keen on Horror films, had no regrets to have seen this one, due to the Horror elements fitting the story and were not there only for the sake of it.
