Sep 29, Ina rated it really liked it Shelves: A bored pirate, retired and living in New York builds a replica of the pirate ship he captained and sails it on the Central park boat pond A battle ensues between the boats, and the boat owners. This is a very quirky story with illustrations that have a retro feel. Mar 06, Jenny rated it really liked it Shelves: My kids liked it, but I think they didn't get the historical significance of it all-a pirate and a queen doing battle with their toy boats.

It made us all smile, though.

Editorial Reviews

The book is charmingly illustrated, and the city-specific details are well-written. Please note that this edition is oversized, and may be difficult to shelve. One person found this helpful. This is a great story of a retired pirate and queen battling it out on the ponds of Central Park with mechanical sailboats. What they learn about friendship is far more important than who won the battle. Delightful illustrations that entertain the imagination! This is an awesome book and my favorite bday gift for the under-5 crowd. Since it is out of print, you do take a risk buying a used one.
