Any book that can draw parallels between raising children and training warriors for battle only reinforces my own view that, in many ways, life is a battlefield. There is a lot of Christianity mixed in with the advice but that does not detract from Smith's overall messsages of being present for your kids, letting them experience loss and heartbreak now so that it strengthens them in the future to deal with greater challenges and to focus on character above performance.
