No need to turn off the lights. I liked the first book in the series, as it was realistically raw, although some of the ancillary characters were a bit of a stretch. There were places in the plot where the characters were forced to rethink their values and as a result, they redefined themselves and their relationships with God. From what I have read in the past, this could really happen in our lifetime, from something man made or God made, like a comet!

The thieves turn out to be four children under the age of 9 who are living in very poor conditions. Their mother disappeared before the outages, so they were left to fend for themselves. It's tough enough for the Brannings to feed their family of six, but they know they can't leave the children alone. This book has a great mystery to it as you learn about the children's past. You also meet and learn about Dani's fiance, Craig. I can't wait to start the next one! Aug 27, Lisa Hoffe rated it really liked it. Fascinating to think of life right now, without all of what we take for granted.

Such a soft society we live in. Looking forward to the next in the series. Dec 31, Ashley Bogner rated it liked it Shelves: Good, just not as good as the first one, in my opinion. View all 3 comments. A worthy successor to the first book, this second part of the Restoration series is a real page turner. I had a hard time tearing myself away from it. Dec 02, Alaina rated it it was amazing Shelves: This is the a great book. I love how the family and community comes together during this massive power outage. This took me on a very interesting journey and it kind of made me rethink the way I thought about marriage for when I'm older of course when Terry wrote about Craig and Deni's relationship.

Probably the only book that's ever had romance where I've begged it to have them break up. I hate Craig, he's unromantic and selfish and he doesn't care for Deni the way Mark does. Some of the book kept you on the edge of your seat, meeting all these new characters and learning about how big of an influence those four kids had on the Brannings. That really proves to Aaron and his siblings that they don't care about the extra money the kids brought into their home, they only care that those kids have a home to stay in. They decided to take these children in and care for them until grandparents are found.

Dec 29, Anita rated it it was amazing. This is the second book in this series and continues the story of the residents of a small town coping with the end of civilization as they know it - no electricity, no communications, nothing electronic works at all after an electromagnetic pulse activity destroys everything. If you haven't read the first one, Last Light, you'll enjoy this more if you read it first.

However, the author gives a brief synopsis of what happened at the beginning of the novel, so this novel can stand alone. Night Light (Restoration #2)

Like the first one, it has an "ending" but it will leave you wanting more and reaching for the third novel in the series! I love what the author does with the characters in these novels. She shows them as real people who make some bad although well-meaning choices and who learn from their mistakes. This is Christian fiction, so there is some of the "rely on God" and bible verses sprinkled in, but not enough to distract from the storyline or to turn off a reader who wouldn't ordinarily choose Christian fiction. The situations in the novels are SO believable. The reader will think about what would happen to them if they were in this situation and how they might react.

This is one of my favorite series that I've read, and I've already started the third book. Feb 10, Brandon Augustus rated it really liked it Shelves: Terri Blackstock is the best Christian mystery writer that I know of. I have read her entire Cape Refuge series and loved it. I also read If I Run which is the first book in a series, the second book, called If I'm Found, comes out in March and I am looking forward to it very much! In this book, the Brannings have already dealt with many trials and matured, but it isn't over yet. They will have to face many difficult times and have to make hard decisions.

Last Light/Night Light (Restoration, #1 & #2) by Terri Blackstock

This book was as engaging as the first in the Series. The characters continue their spiritual journey, and Terri Blackstock writes more about each in this compelling story. Real life struggles don't dim because the lights go out!

Sep 21, Ed rated it it was amazing Shelves: Another good read from the Restoration series. Not as much excitement as the first novel, but we learn about poverty in this volume, and how three children being neglected, took matters into their own hands. And even though they did wrong, the author shows how this came about, and enables our understanding of why they did what they did. Some good lessons to be learned in this volume. Dec 16, Kathi Kelley rated it really liked it Shelves: A good follow up to the first book with emphasis upon the daily struggle for an average family to obtain sufficent food and water to survive as well as to cope with a totally collapsed society.

A second emphasis is on the christian faith of the principal characters 2 parents and 4 kids ranging in age from 22 down to 9 , and how that faith effects their actions and thoughts. Jun 18, Joy rated it it was amazing. I enjoyed how the author added depth to the story in the second book. I cannot wait to read the third book. The neighborhood has really come together and figured out ways to handle life without electricity, running water, stores to buy food and housewares and of course, they have a murder to solve.

Makes You Think If we lost all modern conveniences, how would we act? How important is our faith, our love for others, and for Jesus Christ? This book helped me sort out my priorities. Jun 04, Lynette rated it liked it. The next one in the series. Craig is an unbeliever, which puts an even heavier strain on the relationship.

How will the Brannings survive with four extra mouths to feed? Will Deni and Craig still marry? This book answers all these questions in a storyline full of suspense and unexpected twists.

I could not put it down. With a very well conceived plot, this book grabs the attention of the reader and does not let go. The ending is great; it concludes the story but still leaves room for the imagination to wonder what will happen in the next book in the series. I would recommend this book to any one who enjoys Christian suspense.

Smyth, Christian Book Previews. In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to the age before electricity, the Brannings face a choice. An era unlike any in modern civilization is descending, one without lights, electronics, running water, or automobiles. Humanity and mankind are reflected realistically in this story. Faith in God and desire to do His work on earth is shown. I am looking forward to receiving the final 2 books in the series! One person found this helpful.
