When a former prison wardress who dominates the lives of her three adult stepchildren and her daughter is found dead at an archaeological dig near the Dead Sea, there are a great many suspects. Tame comedy in which Julie converts her stuffy husband Roger and his equally prudish parents to the joys of nudism. A prisoner of war working at a zoo gets the chance to escape from the Germans, so he does and he takes with him the elephant that he's been caring for.
Together they head for the Swiss border and freedom. Katie is a free spirited independently minded year-old.
The film follows her as she reflects on the men in her life. Along the way we meet her drug addict boyfriend Bobby, her lover Jack, close friend Baldy, and her father. Shortly after she moves into her own flat in Brighton, Bella finds she is being spied on and generally harassed by a man living across from her. Finally driven to solving the problem with a hammer, she realises she is then ready for a crusade against other such problem males.
I first saw this film at the cinema and found it quite funny in a sick sort of way. What I liked about it was the British feel to it. The story is a Death Wish type clone Death Wish also directed by Mr Winner it has some memorable characters in and also some memorable places from Brighton. If your after a bit of fun and don't mind some sick scenes you may like this.
Also this film was banned from video release for a few years back in the mid 90's. There are some scenes cut out from the cinema release, but that does not affect the film in any way. Oh I also liked the soundtrack which suited the film very well. Even by today's standard this film has a dark and moody feel to it and may even find it's very own cult status one day. A rapport grows between this unlikely pair, and soon they search out a spark of excitement in this most unlikely of locales. I admit, "slow" films are the kind I like. You can recognize real persons and situations and believe them.
The script is not a masterpiece, but deals fine with our unconscious or prohibited desires. Craftsmanship is on Hollywood level - excellent!
Learn more More Like This. Alice Eve is a positive surprise! It was banned from video release for two years by the BBFC for its violent and sexual content. Barbara seduces Ralph, however, and she becomes the new Lady, but despite her new wealthy situation, A slight affair, and while it's an enjoyable enough experience it's probably not something you'll be discussing come Monday morning. Of course, Matthew Broderick is the "backbone" of the film and, I think, plays the role with perfection. The person everyone of us can find in the neighborhood. Alice Eve is a positive surprise! Fine support with no unnecessary tries to dominate.
