Karen has given us a positive approach to understanding our current relationships. She shows us how each life we touch has been touched many times before, and in many different ways. If we feel we have been treated unfairly, perhaps we had it coming, so to speak, in a past life karma sense. Unbiased and totally honest, she bravely explores her past triumphs and failures, relating them to her life today.
An excellent read for anyone interested in knowing their past - and past lives - a little better. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This book was so interesting! Whether or not one believes in reincarnation, the stories could stand alone in just being interesting by themselves. This book gave me a lot to think about. I enjoyed every page of it! Through review of her own past life regressions, Karen helped me to better understand the process of living, dying and what happens in between. A must read for anyone interested in past lives! I have the pleasure of knowing Karen - she is a truly gifted channeler. I bought Karen's book after I first met her, and read it in 2 days.
Interesting book, but not very deep or reflective. I personally would have enjoyed it more if the author had reflected deeper on the meaning of each described life rather than summing up life events. I thoroughly enjoyed the way this booked was played out, with the chronological order of lives and the way they had healed the author. Received item but have not been able to read at this time to post a review.
I told a friend, after finishing the mentioned book, I wanted to move on and read more about reincarnation. I am anxious to read about her adventures with her research in reincarnation. If we are sincere and ready, we can attain the final destination of Self-realization in this life-time itself. If not we can continue. After listening to this, Arjuna had a doubt. Without attaining the destination if I die then what happens? Will I have to start from the scratch? Will I lose all the sadhana which I have done? What happens to a yogi who happens to die on this path without attaining the final goal?
Arjuna listened to Bhagavan Shri Krihsna very attentively and then asked his doubt. This doubt may arise in our mind also. A yogi puts forth effort of abhyas and vairagya, meditates on this path. He has done karmayoga and gained the knowledge.
Now he is practicing dhyanyoga. He puts forth efforts. But his effort is not enough and before attaining the supreme goal, his mind gets distracted at the time of death and he happens to die. His mind is not steady on the Self and he dies. He dies without attaining the supreme goal of enlightenment.
The goal of the yoga, recognition of the Self, becoming free from the bondage of upadhis — without attaining this he dies then what will be his gati? What will happen to him? Will he lose the result of karma and jnana both? He has withdrawn himself from the path of karma therefore the result of karma will not be there for him.
He is focussing his attention on the Self but he has not gained the abidance. Will he be totally lost as the bunch of clouds gets separated and destroyed by the wind? A yogi who is moving towards Brahman but not gained the abidance in the Self and if he dies then what will happen to such a person? We do not know what happens to a person when he dies because death is atindriya.
We do not know where the jiva goes after death through our indriyas. The Self cannot be seen.
It has no colour. It has no form. Our scriptures talk about it. If we have acquired punya we go to swarga or higher lokas. If we have acquired papa then we go to narak. If papa and punya are equal then we are born as human. We might take birth as other beings. All this happens according to the law of karma. Whatever happens in this body while we are alive continues to happen even after the body falls off.
The sukshma sharira is same so the journey continues in the same way. A person who had unhappy childhood will carry those memories throughout the life. Similarly if there is defect in body then it will continue. In the same way if a person dies, his further gati depends on his karmas.
What about a yogi who has renounced the path of karma and walking on the path of Brahman and dies before attaining the final destination? He is not interested in karmas which will give him higher lokas. He has taken sannyas from all this. Is it that he lose both the karma phala and yoga phala? This is a doubt, a question of Arjuna. Arjuna requests Bhagavan Krishna to clear this doubt completely. No one can tell this with conviction.
But I remember them all. Bhagavan not only remembers all the avatars He had taken but He also knows the life of everyone. He is sarvajna — knower of everything. Arjuna says that only you can clear this doubt. Only Ishvara — sarvajna will be able to tell us exactly what happens. No one else can destroy this doubt.
One will not be able to have complete faith in whatever is told because they are only theories. Only Ishvara can answer this question. Bhagavan Krishna is addressed as Bhagavan in Bhagavad Gita. He is sakshad Ishvara. Bhagavan says that one who is following the path of goodness, dharma shown by scriptures, there is no falling back or downfall for such a person. This is general rule. There is no downfall for him, not only while he is alive but there is no durgati even after his death.
One who is following the path of kalyan — path of goodness as shown in the scriptures will not fall down ever, there is no loss for such a person. Kalyan means path of dharma as shown in the scriptures. The nitya and naimittik karmas, kamya karmas and nishiddha karmas are described in scriptures. Nishiddha karmas should be strictly given up. There is samanya dharma — we have to follow certain values while living in this world like ahimsa, satyam, asteya, brahmacharya, aparigraha.
There are 10 values mentioned which should be followed by each one irrespective of gender, varna, ashrama, age etc. That is samanya dharma — general rule for everyone. Then depending on the state, age, ashrama, varna, we have special duties to follow. That is vishesh dharma.
If we follow the guidance then Bhagavan says that there is no destruction for such a person. Destruction does not mean that the person will not die. He will die when his prarabdha is over. He will face difficulties in life. But there will be definite spiritual progress. Taata — Bhagavan addresses Arjuna by this name. It also used to address son, disciple. Taata means one who extends his own self through his children. As though the self is extended — tanoti. Bhagavan lovingly addresses Arjuna as Taata. Bhagavan says that if you are following this path firstly know that there is no durgati for you.
Now Bhagavan goes in the details. What exactly happens to a yogi who dies without attaining his final destination? The word Yogabhrashta is used for a person who is following the path of dhyanayoga and his body falls off before he attaining the final goal. Why a person is called yogabhrashta? His sadhana is incomplete.
His abhyas and vairagya is not complete. Lack of vairagya means there is still attraction for objects of the world.
There is conviction that what I am seeking is within me but mind still gets attracted towards names and forms out of habit. We are carrying the samskaras from past lives. We might walk this path but the samskaras might pull us towards worldly pleasures and attractions. Lack of abhyas — we also need practice. Sometimes we may not have attraction but mind may go out of habit.
A person goes to school and college he develops habit of paying attention, listening. Such a person starts losing his ability to listen, think and express what is heard with proper discipline once he leaves the college. Similarly, one who is running after the worldly pleasures will not be able to bring back his mind and make it steady on the path of Self.
It requires a lot of practice. One may lack abhyas or vairagya. One may lack both. This might prevent us from attaining the supreme goal. Bhagavan talks about those who lack vairagya. We have lot of desires and we are carrying lot of samskaras from past. We are not available to walk on the path of meditation.
If such a person dies, Bhagavan out of compassion, sends such people to swarga and other higher lokas. These lokas are attained by those who have performed those special karmas.
Meditation is a pure form of revitalization maybe more important than sleep. Or is every brick a different colour, and all the emotions a jumble? There is also medication for depression that works in many cases, but sometimes not. She has not used and does not advocate past-life regressions or hypnosis as a way to prompt memories to return. I smile and practice sending love from my heart for myself and the benefit of all. And then a few are Old Souls.
Bhagavan sends these yogis to those higher lokas. It is like a child who wants to see cartoon but mother is forcing him to study. He is not listening so out of compassion the mother tells him to watch the cartoon for a while and then tells him to study. Intention of the mother is not to send the child to watch the cartoon series. So mother sends him to watch and then make him study.
Similarly, we are carrying many samskaras. We are carrying a lot of desires in our heart. Bhagavan fulfils all the desires out of His compassion. Bhagavan does not want us to remain incomplete, miserable and unhappy. Vibhishana left Lanka and surrendered to Bhagavan Shri Rama. Vibhsishan was thrown out by Ravana. When he was thrown, Vibhishana thought that what if I was the king of this kingdom. He came with this thought and surrendered to Shri Rama. Bhagavan Shri Rama knows the desires of His devotees. He gave the kingdom of Lanka to Vibhishan. Bhagavan does not want us to feel incomplete.
Bhagavan does not want us to feel frustrated. If we understand deeply that there is no value for the worldly gains only then we can walk on this path fearlessly. If we have not understood then Bhagavan gives us those experiences. That is the compassion of Bhagavan. Such a person goes to such higher lokas which are attained by those who have performed special karmas to attain these lokas for a long time. His desire to enjoy gets fulfilled completely by compassionate Bhagavan.
There are some traces of desires left which can be fulfilled only on earth. Such a person is then born in a rich and pure family. One who has gained the wealth through the right means, in such a family a yogabhrashta person is born again. Sometimes purity and wealth does not go together. This yogabhrashta person is born in a rich family which is pure in attitude, pure in action. Whatever traces of desires left can also be fulfilled. Wealth is also means to fulfil our desires. After fulfilling those desires, a person gains vairagya and drops everything and walks on this path.
There are so many stories of princes, born in rich families who dropped everything and followed this path. They have understood deeply. They cannot be tempted. Those who have gained vairagya but they have not done proper abhyas, what happens to such a yogi when he dies? What happens to the yogi who has gained vairagya but his mind is not steady on the Self and he dies? He does not need a rich family but he needs a family which is conducive to his yoga sadhana. He needs spiritual parents. We get lot of guidance for material things.
