However, I don't buy the premise. Whatever the reason, God doesn't always do what we desire him to do. However, it's not because he's not answering us. Sometimes his answer is going to be "no," but it is an answer.

    Sittser would agree he even intimated as much , but kept using the language of "unanswered prayer. However, the language and title communicates too much distance, and I don't feel it conveys the care or involvement God takes when our will may be contrary to his.

    The content of the book was good, and I respect Sittser's story, but I found the emphasis was so strongly placed on transcendence, that perhaps not enough attention was given to God's immanence. May 24, Nancy Pfaffe rated it really liked it. His book was referenced in another book that I was reading so I checked his story out on YouTube.

    I liked the idea about prayer as an epic journey, how it is OK to be mad at God, and how prayer changes us. It can send us on an epic journey that will lead us to places we could never imagine. I will be a hard journey; it will also be a wonderful journey. He even welcomes our complaints. He tells us to express our frustration directly to him, even when it involves what appears to be his own failure. It is why we pray. We pray because God is worthy of our prayers.

I read it through tears in less than a day. It gave me great peace and insight. Some and in fact most of my prayers do get answered but a few important heartfelt prayers have yet to receive an answer, so that's what made me pick up this book.

    The author's answer on what to do when your prayers don't seem to get answered was a surprise to me but it makes sense. I highly recomme This was a fantastic book on unanswered prayer but more than that it was one of the best Christian books I've ever read. I highly recommend this book and want to read more by this author.

Unfortunately it was a library book and I didn't have time to finish it before I realized it was two days overdue. Lots of quotes and words of wisdom that you will want to mark up and refer to again and again so buy a copy, don't get it our of the library. It's a good book with a lot to digest but I'm still left needing an answer to the big question. A fine book, written by a mature and godly man, whose faith has been tested in the laboratory of life.
