Packing light is a process, not a goal. We can always get better. These travel experts all took different approaches. Some downsize their luggage forcing themselves to carry less.

Your ideal travel clothing is durable, takes up minimal space and weight, is wrinkle-free and opaque, and matches with the rest of your clothing in style and fit. Consider these 5 factors that make an article of clothing desirable when traveling and aim to have each piece you bring satisfy at least 3 of them: Recently I wore them dune bashing in Dubai and then to dinner at the Burj al Arab. The clothes you pack also need to have great wearability.
Clothing that can only be worn once before a wash is a waste of space. I like merino wool shirts and socks from Icebreaker and Smart Wool. If you're traveling somewhere cold, pack clothes you can layer up with instead of a heavy winter coat to save space in your bag. Pack clothes that go well together. Try to pack neutral shades like brown, black, cream, white, and gray. For women, pack a simple black dress that you can dress up or down depending on the occasion.
A blazer is also a great choice that you can wear casually or in a more formal setting. Pack practical shoes you can wear on multiple occasions.
Avoid packing a different pair of shoes for every day or event during your trip. They take up half the space and your feet will be more comfortable in the heat.
Bring a small container of laundry detergent. To save even more room in your bag, skip packing laundry detergent and buy some when you arrive at your destination. You lay it flat on the bed, and then stack all your other shirts flat on top of it. Then you fold cross all the arms in a stack and roll the whole thing into a burrito. Pack whatever clothes you will need for 25 days, toiletries, medications, entertainment device, book, etc. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. It can be harder to pack light in colder climates.
I LOVE packing cubes. Not only do they keep your bag organised but they help make the most of your space and stop you overpacking. I tend to travel with four packing cubes. One for tops, one for bottoms, one for underwear and one for evening clothes. Fancy hotels in certain cities will charge a fortune to wash your clothes so look out for laundrettes or, cheaper still, wash your clothes in your hotel bathroom.
You might not find your favourite brand of shampoo but you will find something very similar. A pouch for medicine, one for toiletries, one for souvenirs. Yes, my bag was organised for about the first 5 days out of about days! Socks and toiletries are the perfect items to squeeze in your bag and fill up the gaps. Lots of pouches lead to lots of gaps and lots of wasted space.

Practical definitely trumps style when you want to do a lot of walking. Instead of buying travel cubes, I use the plastic zip bags that sheets and blankets come in. To organize things like thumb drives and ear plugs, I use medicine bottles. Empty plastic spice bottkes tall ones are great for shampoo, etc. I even got a kids in the sale. Yay for being small! I used to find my pack would become just a huge messy ball of clothes all rolled together, but now I actually feel like an organized person! When it comes to shoes, I always take three pairs: Packing cubes are probably the biggest thing that has changed the way I pack.
My biggest issue these days is my camera.
I love to shoot with my DSLR but they take up a lot of room. I have a love hate relationship with my DSLR. Are there any adaptable sandal-heel inventions? I definitely need to investigate packing cubes, as otherwise the thing I want always seems to be buried somewhere.

Too much baggage will weigh you down during your travels, and it can be expensive if you're traveling by plane. Going wheel-less my favourite travel bag is a Patagonia Black Hole duffel with backpack straps is also an advantage where footpaths are non-existent, streets are cobbled and there are lots of stairs Exhibit A: I am the worst over-packer, so I could stand to use these!
A red lipstick makes almost any outfit look totally glam and it takes up no room at all. I love to travel too! Over the last three years have really researched and developed a strategy for Packing Light. I have some little mottos that sum it up: Ounces become pounds become work become problems. Wear One Pack One. DO NOT take anything else! More than ten pounds is too much.
