I don't know, I kind of wished the conversation was broken up into parts or something. I'm not a huge fan of Damila, the ending really annoyed me. I get why, but he said he couldn't and here she is arguing with her team while vampires and demons were coming towards them. I'm sorry but saving your team and losing one person even though you love him is a smarter choice than hanging back and letting the enemy get closer to you and risking your team AND the person you love. Does she not care about her team's safety?
I liked how he view spoiler [ played all three sides the vampire council, Nuit, and the Templars. I liked the sexual tension between Damila and Carlos, the scenes where they're together and the passion they feel felt real, and I liked the whole "mind reading" thing they had going for them. Will I read the next book? I don't know, maybe if I find it at a used book store or a library, I might.
Nov 04, Jess rated it it was ok Shelves: I don't know what to think of this series so far. I am not too fond of L. Banks' style of writing. I feel like she takes too long to describe things and it makes the story move slower. Also, she provides no background in her story, so at points I had to think back to the previous book and try to remember what was happening.
I find that I am not very interested in the characters on the sidelines. I only really care about Carlos and D, and their relationship. I think it is just the author's style I don't know what to think of this series so far. I think it is just the author's style of writing that irritates me. It's such a great storyline and I feel like she messes it up. The jury is still out, there are better books in this genre that I am more intrigued by. Maybe I'll come back to this one later. Sep 05, Stephen Newhall rated it really liked it.
I found the second installment of the series to be far better than its predecessor. The characters seemed to have more room to breathe and developed a bit more, especially Damali and Carlos. You can tell their relationship is something special. This series was touted as similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it's clearly its own animal.
Each character brings something uniquely charming to the table and Damali herself is a very powerful protagonist. Her strength is something that is captivating I found the second installment of the series to be far better than its predecessor. Her strength is something that is captivating and refreshing amidst the seemingly repetitive characters in supernatural books.
I would have liked to see more of the side characters and learn more about them, but maybe as the series progresses we'll learn more about them. Mar 23, The Book Junkie Reads. Taking control of her destiny and the reality of life is what Damali Richards has to do to make a difference in the world that she finds herself having to do a serious battle to protect.
Along the way she finds that love can be a battle all on its own. She has a lot on her young shoulders and will make the best of it. She has her family to help her along the way. Carlos makes difficult choices and must accept what is to what could be. I am very interested in reading the rest of the series. Unfor Taking control of her destiny and the reality of life is what Damali Richards has to do to make a difference in the world that she finds herself having to do a serious battle to protect.
Unfortunately there is more of the bad dialogue, but that comes with the territory of culture, genre and time. May 23, Amber rated it it was amazing Shelves: It feels like a guilty pleasure reading these books. Being a Vampire fiction fan seems really mainstream, but I love this series! As I previously stated, the lore is well researched and perfectly presented. Banks only hints at the romance. Nothing has happened yet for our two main characters, but I have a feeling that they will come together in the next book.
I'm loving the tension and the fantasy excitement. Damali is an awesome heroine, she takes ca It feels like a guilty pleasure reading these books.
Damali is an awesome heroine, she takes care of herself and everyone else. She fights, sings, and lures master vampires all at the same time. This is sooooo much better!!! Apr 24, Jessica rated it it was amazing Shelves: Apr 30, M. Picking right up where Minion left off, Damali now a full Neteru and her Guardian team are battling the forces of Hell, the evil vampire Fallon Nuit and trying to see if Carlos is friend or foe. This book really got my attention , more that Minion, it had more action and suspense and this is the book that really drew me into the series.
Mar 18, Deva rated it liked it Shelves: Nov 18, Sara rated it liked it Shelves: Much better than the first book! This time I knew the characters, knew what they did, knew the routine, and knew the background. Pretty fast paced book, AND we got to see Damali rap.
Still a convoluted, confusing world, though. I ceased trying to make sense of it. The whole ovulation of a Neteru vampire hunter on her 21st birthday was eye rolling at best. A little tired of the scene. I did like the story of Carlos. Much more interesting than Damali. I will read the next Much better than the first book!
I will read the next book, though, and hope there's more in it for Damali and her crew instead of same 'ol, same 'ol. Aug 17, Jessica Whited rated it it was amazing. I am in love with this series. The writing is amazing and I am loving the characters. The first book started slow but now that it has picked up, I can't wait to read the third book. Aug 29, Brett Grossmann rated it liked it.
The dialogue is very dated and the ability of Carlos to take out nuit just too easy. Jan 27, TinaMarie rated it really liked it. I struggled to read through some parts, I put this book down several times and came back to it. Towards the end though I didn't want to put it down. Aug 14, Stevie rated it liked it.
There's no use complaining about white writers and their version of fantasy if that's all I read, you know? So I remembered this series of books from a friend who has pretty much all of them and decided to try them out So I gave up my hopes and grabbed this book instead.
As a new reader going into the second book blind without any clue about the series, I was impressed by how quickly this book got my attention and how fast Banks got me up to speed. I very quickly gained a liking for the leads and I didn't really get confused about what was going on or how the universe worked. On the same token, I'm sure that all the exposition dumps, if I had actually read the first book, would have annoyed me. The explanations kind of make sense because a lot of secrets are being kept from a lot of people and some guardians have to be brought into the fold.
But still, it stops the story in a lot of places where it could be more fluid. Damali is an awesome heroine. It really means something when a character lives up to the hype created by other characters in her own work.
And I couldn't help feeling for Carlos and her friends through out the entire ordeal. If there's a hit or miss in this book that makes the book just an enjoyable read and not phenomenal, it's the melodrama. Now, melodrama is not always the bad thing that people make it out to be. It's just the over dramatization of the everyday and the "mundane" emotions that go with it, plain and simple. After a while, you get tired of hearing Carlos and Damali wrestle with their feelings. Is it really a choice if you were never tempted by that shit in the first place but you are now cause the guy you want to bone is into bad choices?
And is it worth agonizing over that much? Do we really need to hear about sad back stories when the plot takes place over three days? How many times can the vampires talk about how much of a hot piece of ass Damali is while Carlos scowls and pines? That's really for the reader's personal tastes to decide.
But did I get invested in that melodrama? More than once, I was screaming at the book, trying to tell the characters what to do. I didn't really get that. I do want to finish the rest of the series. I guess that's good, right? Full judgement reserved for later, I suppose. If you like seductive descriptions and forbidden vampire and human love along with kickass action, this is your hit for the day.
Feb 22, Tiffiane rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this book as much, if not more, than book 1. In book 2 of the Vampire Huntress series, we learn much more about Damali, her past, Marlene's past, and some of what each of their Guardian team has been through to get where they all are today, as having become guardians and accepted the gifts given to them from On High. We also learn more about what Damali will turn into once she reaches full-huntress Neteru capacity, and just what responsibility she has in the fight of light vs. Additional Details Series Volume Number. I could easily see these being a Movie Series better than Twilight. This is a great book. I appreciate the speedy service! It deviates from the norm. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Excellent read, very well written. Fast paced action, intrigue, and romance. I highly recommend this series.
With an urban contemporary setting and a well developed cast of characters it's easy to be drawn in and become a part of the story because the details are thorough without being tedious or overwhelming. I wish the main character was a little older, but she's still likeable.
However, some of the same things that bothered me about that book came to surface in this one too. Damali was orphaned at an early age and her experiences in foster care led her to escape, starting her journey as a vampire huntress. I was hooked from the start. That's the way it was and I never questioned any of it To unleash her child from the gates of hell—as soon as she destroys the only two vampire hunters who can possibly stop her I highly recommend this series. Secreted away in the Appalachian Mountains, this magic-glamoured pyramid that was relocated from the Mayan ruins as well as the capstone taken from Egypt during the big war, hides the entrance to a forgotten bunker left over from the old s cold war between the United States and Russia.
Intelligent, strong, virtuous without the over the top "sassiness" that can ruin a female lead. Her crew of guardians offer a variety of personalities to connect with from comedic to strong and silent. Her love interest is everything you want in a handsome bad boy, with a hint of "goodness. It's great to read a book that is full of diversity, and gives you a totally unique view of the paranormal. So love this series A story based in female enpowerment One person found this helpful.
