The title page on my Kindle copy describes this book as "YA Chick Lit", and that's pretty fair, as long as you look at the upside of that description.

It's definitely aimed at teen readers, its heroine is definitely a slightly oddball chick, and it's well written enough to be described as lit. If that's what you want, that's what you'll get.

What is a Cozy Mystery?!

Kait may be a funeral crasher, but that just allows her to meet cute with the heart throb Ethan. It isn't a central preoccupation of the book. Rather, we spend mosy of our time rambling through Kait's head, sleuthing, and crushing on Ethan, more or less in that order. So, you have to buy in to Kait as a character, and you have to warm up to the world in which she has been placed by the author. I was fine with both. Kait is a little dorky and gushy and awkward, but not to excess and not in some distractingly weird way. She's played a little bit for laughs, and to milk some smiles from her awkwardness, but she's insightful and honest enough that the reader respondes to her appeal.

Adventures of a Graveyard Girl (Funeral Crashing Mysteries #2) excerpt

Added to this, she's set in a high school world that touches all of the bases, mean girls, being an outsider, crushing on unattainable boys, and so on , but doesn't beat the reader over the head or go too far over the line. The mean girls aren't insanely mean, the crushes aren't stupid, the outsiderness isn't pathological. This is light and lively angst, which is right for the character and the plot. So, it's fun read , with a surprisingly decent mystery , and it delivers what it promises. A nice find amongst the Kindle freebies.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This book, you guys. At first, it sounded kind of weird--I mean, a girl who likes to go funeral crashing? But I gotta admit, this book was fantastic! The quirkiness is actually what called to me that and the fact that is was an Amazon freebie! The handsome and popular Ethan wants to find out who and if someone actually killed his sister. Ethan suspects she was murdered, though no one else thinks so.

Editorial Reviews. About the Author. Milda Harris is a Chicago girl who ran off to Hollywood to Book 1 of 4 in Funeral Crashing Mysteries (4 Book Series). Adventures in Funeral Crashing has ratings and reviews. Shelves: young-adult, mystery, books, cosy-mystery, own-read, read-on-kindle.

She and Ethan set out to find what actually happened to his sister. Adventures in Funeral Crashing was so much fun! I loved Kait and Ethan! She is so unnecessarily rude! But I am intrigued There was a little bit of rambling in the beginning, explaining things and whatnot, that kind of annoyed me but I got over it quickly because the writing itself just pulled me in.

This book is too great to stay annoyed at for too long ; And that twist ending It totally pulled a Pretty Little Liars! Adventures in Funeral Crashing was a very fun story with an interesting mystery, sweet blooming romance, great characters, and a quirky and likable MC!

I highly recommend this one! Funerals are somber affairs that most people try to avoid--for either the sadness or the creepy factor. But in Adventures in Funeral Crashing by Milda Harris, we meet 17 year old Kait Lenox who enjoys going to funerals, which gets her branded as a freak at school thanks to her former best friend, Ariel.

Perhaps sparked by the first funeral she went to, her mother's, when Kait was young, Kait has found an emotional release from attention funerals. But little did she know that the college-aged girl's funeral she's attending is the half-sister of her crush, Ethan Ripley. And, we learn in no uncertain terms that Ethan is smart, athletic, popular, and hot.

NEW RELEASE!

Getting caught in her funeral crashing ways by her crush wasn't what she had envisioned, but it did wind up bringing them together to solve the "if I can't have you no one can" mystery behind the out-of-character drug overdose death of Ethan's half-sister. The concept of the story was intriguing, making for a quick read, and I feel like it had a lot of potential, but when coupled with the incredibly annoying voice for Kait, I found myself cringing at the "I'm not like most girls" ideal being portrayed through that voice--especially with the heavy-handed Twilight references throughout the text.

If it were just that the voice was annoyingly juvenile, I could handle that, but the superiority complex involved when treading in the "I'm not like most girls" realm makes it a no-go for me. Overall, I'd give it a 2. This is a delightful, innocent, clean mystery starring teens, and can be enjoyed by people of any age. Kait is quirky, awkward, and bubbly. Ethan we see through her point of view is the typical idealized popular kid, but without airs, and down to earth, not to mention protective and stubborn.

Though Kait was too bubbly and scattered for my tastes. And there were times when her priorities were totally screwy. Another downfall of the book was the climax chapter where it went off the rails as it tried to tie threads together and ended up in a knot of threats and mistaken identities. See all reviews.
