Thus, the tendency to focus on one thing and one thing only, missing the bigger picture behind that one focal point. It seems to be the recurring theme throughout the book but Gray herself wanted to change such mentality. Bad habits were difficult to breakaway from but what's truly important was that Gray was actively trying to do so. Finally, she realized how abstaining magic was actually detrimental to her overall. I'd like to see her go on from this point.
She may be frustrating during book 1 but I can see her tremendous efforts in righting her wrongs. I'd like to see her grow. I have yet to connect with Darius, Emilio and Asher because Ronan seems to be the first to connect with Gray. And I think, rightfully so? From his background story, it makes sense to be the first relationship with the heroine to be established.
With that said, I was pretty impressed with how the guys acted. They are indeed mature, showing how many years they have been living from such wisdom they exude. I just don't understand it when there are other books also presenting 'mature and wise beyond years' heroes At least, these heroes did live their years wisely. The pacing of the story seems pretty good enough imo. Just really had a hard time reading about the heroine herself. What with all her weaknesses and insecurities laid out in the first book. I definitely would like to see what's next for Gray and her guys.

If you like Supernatural but wish there was just a teensy bit more romance, this series is for you.
One witch and five, yes FIVE, hot males all hailing from different aspects of the magical realm: Oh, and hunters -- not the badass kind like Sam and Dean but seriously sadistic dickwads -- are after all of witchkind. The main character has hidden her magic away after a tragedy nearly a decade ago, but it's time for her to come fully into her power and put an end to those arseholes. Such a great story line!!!

I see the beginnings of a relationship but it isn't over whelming. Gray is a hard character to review. She is one of those characters you like but don't like. She has her moments of strength and courage but then she just drags out the denial to the point I want to stake her. Overall it a good story I couldn't stop reading.
Jun 19, Kat T. A bit of a drag, not much action or magic the cool kind, not the lame kind going on.
For a bunch of magical creatures—witches, werewolves, vamps, demons—everyone seemed so mundane. Will probably still read the second book soon though. But now thing have But there are 5 4 hot guys helping her. Her long time demon friend Ranan, sexy British vampire Darius, caring detective shifter Emilio, and the stand offish bad boy incubus Ash. Things get more complicated when someone starts killing witches, which includes her Gray has kept her magic on lock down ever since she can The they Bay seven years ago. Things get more complicated when someone starts killing witches, which includes her best friend.
But Gary refuses to run like she has been for seven years.
She has to stay and fight for her best friend. If only she knew what his strange magic meant. No one expected the witch killer to be someone Gray knew Plot This book has a lot of potential. It was just poorly executed. There was too much insta love. After two weeks of knowing all four of them, she called the her family and talked about how much she loved them.
Then she started calling him Liam and how hot he was. I really hope nothing happens there. Then there was the dreaded prophecy. Anyways, totally going to Read the second book. Hope it gets better. Apr 28, Anna rated it liked it Shelves: I don't know about this one. I liked the story itself.
The plot, though kind of complicated, seemed rather interesting and I wouldn't mind to keep going. I feel like we have barely scraped the surface and there is still so much to learn about this world. But I straggled to connect with the characters. And I completely missed the parts where Grey herself formed bonds with the guys and that is probably one of my favorite parts of an RH. So I'm really not sure what to make out of the book as a wh I don't know about this one. So I'm really not sure what to make out of the book as a whole.
I think I need to give the story another chance and read the next book, then we'll see. Jun 09, Siri rated it liked it. This book wasn't really my thing. It felt too rushed with the relationships and the storyline. The writing wasn't bad, but I don't care for the multiple POV shifts for this type of story, or that there was such a large pre-existing relationship details. View all 3 comments. We have witches, vampires, demons, and shifters, not to mention death personified. In a world where magic is the norm, and yet witches live in fear of practicing it due to Hunters, Gray is living her life hiding from what she truly is; a witch. After accidentally resurrecting a young girl, Gray finds that ignoring her magic may no longer be possible.
Gray was a great main character. She was headstrong and resilient, while still having a soft heart Shadow Kissed is a new take on the supernatural. She was headstrong and resilient, while still having a soft heart and a kind personality. The side characters were complex and the guys, 1x vampire, 2x demons, 1x shifter, and death himself, were perfect as the men in Grays life - and soon to be reverse harem. The intricate relationship ties between each character were well thought out and portrayed, especially between Ronan and Gray the history there.
And the tension and heat between Gray and the guys matched the tempo of the plot perfectly - there are some steamy scenes but still more on the medium burn side. In the first few chapters, I had to really fight not to bawl like a five year old. There are a couple of minor editing errors but nothing to write home about pun intended and they are few and far between. And I am looking forward to the next book.
Apr 24, Victoria nocturnalintimacy rated it liked it Shelves: I think the series has potential, despite some plot hiccups. I never truly understood the world. Is the supernatural common knowledge? It seems like everyone is out in the open ex. Fae club, Illuminae , but somehow Hunters are only after witches. That doesn't make sense.
Also, it's odd to me that Grey would not tell her best friend about the experience with Bean, because she was afraid of being betrayed, but she told Darius with no reason to trust him. I'm interest Kindle Unlimited. I'm interested in learning about Gray's past and the deal that made Ronan her guardian. That is the most interesting plot line for me.
Apr 18, Spax rated it did not like it Shelves: You could probably stand in a burning house together with her, and while working on getting her out of there, she will refuse to take a single step until you tell her about "MUH POWER!!! Also, I kind of cringed when the author tried This main character.
Also, I kind of cringed when the author tried to sell me why Darius likes her aka the it's not her body, it's her! Aug 06, Rhiannon Chillingworth rated it really liked it. I don't know if it's just because I've read, or left unfinished, several crappy RH books recently, but this was a real plesent surprise. Set in a world where witches, vampires, werewolves and demons live side by side, mostly on the shadows, but not unknown to humans, we have Grey.
She's a twenty something year old who is just trying to stay below the radar working a crappy job, but she carved a life for herself with her roommate, and best friend, Calla. She also happens to be a powerful witch, but after the tragic loss if the woman she considered a mother, she refuses the use her magic, in case she alerts the Hunters to her presence. The Hunters are a group of men who are intent in exterminating witches, causing them to either live in fear of being discoveres if the practice their craft, or, like Grey, stop completely. After a random attack by some drunken low life whilst out doing her job, Grey unwittingly uses some dark power she didn't even know she possesses.
This causes a huge snowball of events that shake up everything in her life, both for the worse and for the better. She clearly had her issues regarding he uise if magic, but her crappy past wasn't made a huge deal if, as it often the case with main characters that have been through a difficult time. It did make her pig-headed and in denial at times, but it made sense with what she's been through. She was a bit of a victim at the start, but as the boom progresses she gets tougher and seems to grow into herself and her powers a lot.
There was definite character growth going on. This is a true RH with a diverse group of men. Two demons, a vampire, a werewolf and even Death himself as a candidate.

I liked all of hlthe ken well enough, but I think Ronan and Darius were the only ones that felt really developed in this book. Ronan can be a bit overbearing for my tastes, but again, I see why he is like he is with her. I think Darius is my favourite so far, and Death is pretty enigmatic. The werewolf, Emilio is probably the character who gets the least time with Grey, but I assuming all of these relationships will develop. For long with RH readers, the men apart from Death all know each other and have worked together, and while they are not all best friends, there's a camaraderie going on.
There also seems to be not possessive macho crap going on between them, and the idea of sharing Grey doesn't seem to be an issue. While this hasn't immediately jumped into my favourite category, it was an enjoyable read and I'm going to pick up the next book straight away. If you're a fan of RH and feel like you've exhausted the decent options and are left with the nonsense, then this might be worth a try. There's a solid UF story going on in the background, decent world building, characters who seem reasonably well developed and a RH scenario that isn't annoying!
Jul 30, Desiree rated it really liked it. I've never been real into romance novels that featured more than one leading man more colloquially known as "reverse harem" because the vast majority of these books are an excuse for pages upon pages of smut, without the presence of any real plot. When you've got more than one penis, it seems, you've got to have a greater-but-equal increase of screwing. Secondary to that, I'm also fed up on the kind of books that have more than one potential partner for the heroine, so she samples them all beca I've never been real into romance novels that featured more than one leading man more colloquially known as "reverse harem" because the vast majority of these books are an excuse for pages upon pages of smut, without the presence of any real plot.
Secondary to that, I'm also fed up on the kind of books that have more than one potential partner for the heroine, so she samples them all because she can't make up her mind, flitting from one to the other like a bee on a flower as she finds some reason to be pissed off at one, needs a distraction from another until, she decides to forgive the first You will need to read book first though. The characters are very complex and well written. The story eill keep you reading all night.
Tikiri is an author to watch out for. I was given this book by Hidden Gems for an honest review. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. I have not yet read the prequel or book one in the series, but I will now! And the author provided enough brief snippets of background information from the previous stories that it was easy to pick up the action and characters to read this as a standalone, though there are still major issues unresolved at the book's end.
Asha, the heroine, is loyal to her family and friends and willing to bend the rules to keep herself and them safe. This story deals with human trafficking and the women are sold into modern day sexual slavery, but, for the most part, the author stays away from graphic details. That's not to say the violence and cruelty of the traffickers is glossed over or ignored, just that the nitty gritty details of the women's sexual exploitation are mostly left to the reader's imagination.
As Asha, the main heroine, finds her way from one dangerous situation to another, she gathers a band of friends. They pool their individual strengths and rely on one another and, at times, the goodness of strangers. But the traffickers aren't the only undesirables they meet. A snooty, jealous chef, drug traffickers, unsympathetic immigration officers and indifferent or corrupt police also throw obstacles in their path. I didn't think I could do it, but I read this story in one day.
I just could not put it down.
Three siblings, three completely different people, Giselle, Kamille and Marcel, suddenly find themselves face to face with the occupation, and it will change their lives forever I thought it was a wonderful contrast between Giselle's relationship with the feared Chief of the Gestapo, Karl. Review for Rebel of the Sands By book Am, Europe was n't anymore heard into a feedback of including Musicians. This is a true RH with a diverse group of men. Why requires Critical Thinking Important? But the important ones - Rahim one of the Sultan's sons , Sam an informant for the Rebellion, and a shameless flirt who is hilarious , even Leyla Rahim's sister and fellow offspring of the Sultan - stuck in my mind, and were hard to forget.
There were one or two places, particularly in the extensive description of the decor and dining in a lavish castle, where the story bogged down a bit, but overall this was a great read with plenty of action, interesting characters and brilliant glimpses into the ways society promotes exploitation of vulnerable women and children throughout the globe, in wealthy and developing nations alike. The explanations of how these women and children were drawn into labor and sex trafficking were true to life and this series is a useful tool to bring these practices to light.
I read a complimentary copy of this book; this is my voluntary and honest review. The storyline steps straight into where the previous book ended, immediately putting the reader on the edge of their seat. This is an adventure novel. The heroine is Asha, she is a protector. This deals with human trafficking. There are no graphic details. This is a very fast moving story. I do not normally read this type of book but I truly enjoyed it. I am now going to go back and read book one. I would say if you can read them in order it would have been much better.
I got this book free for my honest opinion. I read this book months ago and loved it. Today, I picked it up to recall the story and the characters Thankful Its a day off! I begin to imagine awful things happening to these friends but am surprised at their clever plans and quick get aways. This is an initiation story of how many silenced children go from innocence to street smart rather quickly. The cast of characters are intriguing Together, as a group, they add up to a powerful gang of young people determined to set things right.
Its a story that has a hidden map within its chapters, teaching young women how to maneuver in a harsh world I leave with a quote, "What happened hundreds of years ago and what everyone thought was a terrible thing, is still happening". I think this story is important to read for many people who are seemingly comfortable and safe in their own lives, to know how many children are forced to live fearful lives, all around the world.
