I enjoyed reading this poetic, figurative memoir. But I had to reread it for the language and imagery. Kazim Ali's book changed the way I look at constructing literature, inspired the poetic side of my writing, and encouraged me to look more closely at the places I've been.
Since reading his book I've grown an appreciation for sentimentality and scholarship with regards to place and how such work could create inspiring, intersectional books such as this one. A dreamy, gauzy, balmy narrative composed of exquisite sentences.
Widened my worldview while reaffirming my faith in humanity. For those who like poetry more than they hate memoirs. Also for those who are interested in religion, queer studies, etc.
