My wife had been struggling with a decision for quite some time regarding her willingness to undertake a major course of study, exams and licensing requirements. This was a program which would be a voluntary commitment on her part, and would entail a great deal of work on her part. She had been very ambivalent on whether or not to proceed.

The day after I finished the book, I asked her for permission to ask her several questions regarding her motivation for entering and completing the licensing program she was considering this was the "establish autonomy" question right from Step 1 in the book. She agreed and I proceeded to ask her the sequence of questions right from the book, which as I pointed out, I had just finished the night before. It was almost surreal to watch my wife uncover her own motivation for entering the rigorous training program. I didn't manipulate or persuade her.

She did it totally on her own. At the end of about 6 minutes, I asked her the final question, which also reinforces autonomy, "what's the next step, if any? She went out the next day, ordered the books, completed the rigorous course of study, passed her exams and became licensed.

I have successfully used the Instant Influence process on myself a number of times. It works great, even though you realize you are engaged in the process. Knowing that I am using the process on myself doesn't make a difference, because I am not engaged in manipulation, rather a discovery of my own motivation for making a change.

That's not deceptive, it's revealing and enlightening. I have used the process successfully on several occasions when I needed assistance from a hotel or airline customer service agent.
