Ofeig accepts his fate and becomes a self-made man, yet despite all his modern Aviking, he is missing a piece of his heart. The Valkyre who he dared to claim, Eva, is nowhere to be found and he doesn't know where to look. Unfortunately for Eva, she lands in an alley and is immediately accused of a murder she didn't commit. Two thugs, Bennie and Louis, give testimony that sends her to the state prison.

While there, Eva learns English and receives an education.

With the help of a law student, Mike, Eva is freed from jail and returns to San Francisco. Ofeig spies Eva running near the pier and makes it his mission to find her, but when he does, will he have an honest shot of winning her love or has jail hardened Eva's heart? It's a nice touch in that the reader gets a glimpse of the previous heroes in the series and their "happy ever after. Ofeig only cares about battles and Aviking, but with his journey to the future, he realizes there's more to life than conquest.

Standalone paperback edition cover. I had never read one before, but just happened to try Eirik the first book in the Mists of Albion series. Ragnar is the second book, but I'm so glad I started with book 1. That said, the world-building is excellent here Emma and Ragnar's story is very emotional, has drama, and has such a weight to it. I was immediately captured by it.

The author really lets us get to know the characters and that makes everything more impactful. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and want more from this author. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy. If you have not read Eirik yet, read that before this one or Ragnar will not make a lot of sense. This series is great, emotional and heart wrenching and I could not put either of them down.

If you love time travel and a love that spans time , you will love these books. This is about Emma, a friend of Paige who was featured in book one, who tries to go back to find her friend only to be captured herself. Through several trials she ends up with Ragnar, the jarl for another group of Vikings, but he is a childhood friend of Paige's Eirick. It is a page turner that you cannot put down.

Miss Bell draws realistic characters from two completely different worlds. Her descriptions of the people and life of 9th century England is authentic. She did her research in that time period. If you love time travel romances and want something different, I wholeheartedly recommend this series. As usual the Press and News is trying to destroy a family reputation and there lives.

The police just want to say that they solve a case, even if it's a lie.
